That's great news. Sprains can be pretty bad, but it beats being in a
cast for 6 weeks. Dittos welcome to Melissa and Lori.

I talked with Melissa. Ankle is just sprained, not broken, so she is very
happy about that, and will be back out with us as soon as she can! Welcome
to the group, Melissa, and you too, friend Lori!
Joni Shirk
I think that we should have our club hospitality chairwoman (Genie
Dolan) give her a ring. Genie and I went to pick her up on Tuesday
night (well, really we were headed to the Jigger Shop for a Part 2
milkshake when Todd frantically waved us down and took us to the
wounded runner).
Upon seeing her ankle Genie must have repeated at least three
times "oh my dear ... you're DOOMED!". Understandably, Melissa just
kinda gritted her teeth when I asked if she minded us stopping by the
Jigger Shop on the way back to Keith's. We did the good thing and
took her back before getting our ice cream fix.
Not sure how she's doing since then, but do recommend Genie getting
in touch with her!!

The team is looking better. They won 5 of the last 7, and I'll put one of
the losses on Tom Herr for letting an exhausted starter give it up in the
9th. I understand that they wanted a local face for the manager's position,
but he's shown me nothing.
The new shortstop makes a big difference. He's made some plays that the
previous guys wouldn't have touched.
One good thing about the Atlantic League (it's all about marketing) is that
they play a split schedule. So, on July 15, all teams will start the second
half with a 0-0 record. Therefore, July 15 is Opening Night #2.
Last week, I got a foul ball, and I wasn't even inside. I rode over and was
watching from left field when a ball went over the third base stands and
landed on the parking lot. I didn't want to look like too much of a dork by
fighting 9 year olds for it, but nobody was around, so after about 30

Nice report Dave.( http://www.ultrablog.us/index.php
)
Its nice to hear of the details with firsthand
report. Good to hear of your and Morgan Windrams
adventures. I was updated with web reports from
Lancaster connections on progress of various top
runners, Mike Masons, Morgans and Marcia Peters who it
sounds also ran very consistently and finished in 27+
under what i think was her target.
I am even more interested in details and strategy
right now, having made the leap to go to Vermont after
Laurel Highlands and testing recovery in somewhat
oppressive heat this past weekend at Double Trouble
30k.
I want to try to have a pacer, so if there is anyone
who gets this I know who might have that interest,
please be in contact soon. Even though, i ultimately
ran mostly at Laurel Highlands with pretty consistent
group of 4 or 5, thoughout the run, having a pacer
(Joan Messick), waiting, gave me a tremendous added
committmet
The Vermont race is July 16 & 17,
and I plan on getting up there by not too much later
than noon on 15th, camping somewhere nearby start. See
ya there, Dave.

Congratulations to Marcia Peters for finishing the Western States 100 Mile
Endurance Run this past weekend in 27:37. Western States is nicknamed the
Super Bowl or Boston of 100 mile races because entrants must qualify for the
event by running other events and also win a lottery to participate. The
race is run from Squall Valley to Auburn, California over the Sierra Nevada
Mountains in temperatures that range from below freezing at the start to
over 100 degrees in the midday canyons.
1. Marcia Peters finished Western States. Big congrats.
2. Men's singlets and shorts are now available at the Inside Track for
$19.00. Women's will be available later this week.
3. Exec Mtg tomorrow evening at 7:00 PM - home of Steve Farrah
Check out the western states 100 race site. Congratulations to Marcia Peters
who finished in 28:37 or so, assuming I was able to convert the clock correctly.

a new trail ultra is debuting this september in the teton mountains just outside

documentary about badwater, 'racing on the sun.' i ran part of the trail a few

during lisa's badwater training camp, and it's gorgeous. the resort is also
great -- very
comfy and rustic. it should be an excellent race.

What – Mom's House 5K
When – Wednesday June 22, 2005
Where – Rockfort Park, Wilmington DE, front of tower
Who – Fred Stevens, Evan Sandt
Who what else, Fred is now to be known as Dr. Fred, Evan is going
by Mud Dog, representing the Mud Dog Ranch (& the LRRC)
Put on by - Marathon sports/wayne kursh & wife/races2run.com
Why – race a 5K
Why else – summer time, midweek race, good cause/ benefit race &
course uhh shirt
Course– course began in park to side of large tower made of large
stones. Course did counter clockwise loop back around tower toward
front of park, then to rear of park along vista laden lane
overlooking river, in trees, out of trees, behind tower, crossed
start line, exited park to tower drive, passed 1 mile mark.
What happened in race – young highschool kid leapt to and held lead
for entire race. A pack formed early on with said hs kid in front,
hs kid gradually got further and further away, kid ran on sidewalk,
pack ran on road, kid ended up with a 35 or so second victory in
17:19ish.
Tower drive spilled on to rt 52 for a good long straight section,
heading north. Course turned back approximately half way, faced
oncoming runners, back to tower drive, back to park, back to loop,
circled back to tower this time to left of tower, finishing in front
of tower.
What after: immediately after: flavored ice (not sure what makes an
i-talian ice Italian ice aside from….label & price, maybe this was
southern Italian water ice). Tasted pretty good, not bad after a
bout with o2 debt. Fruit & oggwahh avail too
Results: Fred & evan: top 10 3rd & 1st in age grp respectively
Winners: girl winner was a girl – highschool jr or sr to be, boy
winner was boy – a to be jr. both at local/wilm. De area hs's
What else after – park is on high ridge above river. Ran around
park toward river for after race run, found 2 parallel to river
trails – looked like old trolley beds, cinder surface. Think they
connect all the way down to center of town.
What else after race: hungering for hot dog, made wawa stop, looked
at hot dog, became not hungry for hot dog.
Why an entire bus isn't filled up with LRRCurz to go from Lancaster
to Wilmington – Dunno, Oprah was on? We had a nibble from Donovan
& PrezBob in the past, maybe we'll snare `em next time..
When is next time-for the DE bus to go? Judy Johnson 5K 7/27/05
http://www.races2run.com/2005_Details/07-2005details.htm#072705-judy
Next time local? Peace Run on Sat, F&M XC Series on Mon (it's in a
lot folk's back yards, no reason not to)
What else again – the run bus rolls on, here & now is for the
history making, the stories, anecdotes andthelike.
Activeinvolvement welcome.

Many thanks to the Sandt family for such a great fun run last night. The course
was great for me, (i biked it,), as I need as many biking hill workouts as I can
get. My neighborhood is sorely lacking in the elevation department.
The hospitality, food, camraderie, and a picture-perfect sunset made for a fine
night.
Thanks again, kathi franco

Just wondered who was planning on doing the Double Trouble race on Sunday and if
anyone had space availability to take a freeloader, I mean another runner,
along. I live in Lancaster but could meet you anywhere, within reason. I am
planning on doing the 15K so someone wouldn't have a very long wait for me to
finish, I hope.
Thanks,
