Ok folks, pay attention. This
is the first, last and only official
email announcement concerning the tenth running of the Buzzards Marathon. The
event date is March 16th. The run will start at 8 am as usual from
the Pa. Game Commission parking lot in Fishing Creek Pa. Please go to http://www.lrrclub.org/Buzzards.html for more info and directions to the start.
Even though this will be the only announcement, please feel free to email me
with any questions.
If you are
planning on doing the Buzzards, please read this entire announcement, if you’re
bringing a friend, make sure that they read it also
The Buzzards is a true fat-ass type event. There is
no registration, no entry fee, no times, places or awards. There is also no
wavier to sign (if I don’t know you’re out there then I can’t be held
responsible) no first aid on the course and no plans for search and rescue.
This is a serious “post graduate type” trail run. If you need aid stations
every 3 or 4 miles or don’t think you can be self-sufficient for three or four
hours this is probably not your event. If however you want to spend a glorious
day in the woods on some tough and beautiful trail with some of the nicest and
craziest people you’ll ever meet, come join us in March.
FAQs
Will there be aid on the
course?
I plan to have an aid station at the 15 mile point.
It will be stocked with water, Coke and Mountain Dew. There will also be some
salty stuff and some cookies. If you want high-tech energy bars or special
fluids please plan on carrying your own. The aid station will not be stocked
with aspirin, advil or any type of electrolyte caps. Also, the aid station will
close at 2 pm, There is a reliable
spring right before the aid station, I will have it flagged .
Will I be able to get a ride
if I drop out?
Probably not. There will be only one vehicle at the
aid station. We will try to keep some space for true emergencies, so unless you
have a real problem you might as well just suck it up and finish.
How long is the course?
Exactly 26 miles 385 yards measured with a calibrated
steel tape. Actually, we don’t really know.
Is this a Boston Qualifier?
Don’t think so.
How will the course be marked?
Very minimally. I will try to mark the turns with
ribbons and, if there’s no snow, flour. Don’t expect many confidence markers.
How will I keep from getting
lost?
Take a turn sheet and a map, I’ll have them at the
start. Also, if you haven’t run the Buzzards before, RUN WITH SOMEONE WHO HAS.
Will my feet get wet?
Yep
Can I litter?
Nope, this isn’t the JFK. I’m very proud of everyone
who has run the Buzzards, I see virtually no litter on the course when we take
down the ribbons.
Are there bathrooms at the
start?
No, please stop and take care of things before you
get there. I f you need to go at the start, there are plenty of trees but
please bury your TP,
Is there a post run meal
No, but there is usually plenty of food and some
grilling going on in the parking lot after the run. VERY IMPORTANT !!!!
Alcohol is prohibited in the
parking lot, be discreet, visible containers are a sure way to get busted. If
you do get busted, I have no idea who you are or why you’re there
Is this a real event
NO, It the best trail run that never happens. If it
was a real event I would need permits, waivers and permission to use the AT,
none of which is going to happen. If a Pa Game Warden asks me what all these
people are doing, I’ll deny knowing any of you. If he asks you, the correct
answer is that a bunch of friends just got together to do a little trail run.
