The Silver Mine run on Thursday night was a lot of fun, and many of
us also learned a lot. We learned about Todd Sikora's "dream" real
estate, a hilltop perched above Silver Mine Park. We also learned
about old trolley lines, old mines (and their shafts) and the
difference between a barn and a pavilion (ask Bill Smith). We took
the real life gamble of leaving our cars in the parking area and
risking that the gate would be locked after dusk versus moving our
cars to a smaller (un-gated) parking area that would be visible from
the road.
This was a very pretty run. I am anxious to get back there some time
during the day to see the full splendor; however, the night run was a
great intro to this place for me. A big thanks to Todd Sikora for
providing the value added interpretive trail remarks...they were
worth much more than the price of admission.
Also...for those who were so inclined, Part 2 at the Frogtown Cafe
was a real winner. As always, the food was top notch, and the
service was A-OK. I love it whenever you get a waitress who calls
you "honey". This was a younger one than the normal "honey"
waitresses, so it was even more of a cheap thrill. We even managed
to barely escape before the karaoke began.
Can't wait to explore more new Southern End trails. Stay tuned, I
think Evan has a couple of tricks up his sleeve!
