stream 'o conciousness RAVE RUN REPORT – WRIGHTSVILLE SAM LEWIS
SHUFFLE
11/16/2006, Wrightsville, PA, 5:00 PM, Fisherman's Park across from
the Dutchman but no part 2 at Dutchman, scheduled part was
Wrightsville Inn, but that didn't happen either. 2 people showed,
fred & me/evan. Prior to that, drove from place of work on
harrsiburg pike near stadium to Wrightsville (230/30/441/462/624).
Rained like it probably does in hell - like dogs & more dogs. Just
after charlotte st: too deep to cross, cut over Frederick by
hildy's, Trainbridge near post office: full on waterfall coming down
on the road; long's park – little stream catching all run off from
everything around, well flooded over banks. Still raining like hell,
hopped on 30 w, everyone crawling along, remaining unpaved fields
near Mountville: ponds. Underpasses: big puddles. Headed around
big curve that straightens toward river in Columbia – a slit in the
sky has the sun peering out so it's raining like hell, can't see,
need my sunglasses but can't see anything. Get to exit for 441.
rain gets lighter, hop on bridge and sun is out, looks like those
rapture lookin pictures people hand out in Sunday school ("you keep
cussin, you'll surely end up in a lake of fire!"). off bridge w/a
179 degree right hander onto 624. rains letting up a bit. Parked
at the park, fred there, said course partially marked due to hell of
a lotta rain. Get out of car, see big full rainbow right over
river; nice. Start run & talk about odd cars from past years: opel,
maverick, pacer & amc lines. Up big fricking hill that goes past
turn blaze for MDTS, make right on dirt type road, proceed past
other world looking area next to big quarry. Land is kind of
ravaged, at least the light makes it so. Keep going get to gigantic
puddle, try to go round but hop in after choice of briars or wet.
Onward, to tall fence, over & onto nice looking woods looking like
spring valley course from the york winter series. Keep on heading
up & up, finally to a gate accessing a dead end road. Proceed (up)
road to cool creek rd, right then left to road that accesses sam
lewis. By this time completely dark, good thing roads have wide
shoulder. Keep climbing-been doing so since start of run, on to top-
the very top, at sam lewis SP. Up to overlook, looking east over
Wrightsville, Lancaster, Columbia, safe harbor and more. Northwest
at opposing ridge-only thing close to similar elevation. Quite a
view. On down, onto whatever rd then coolcreek then down long hills
all the way down to golf course/creek/bridge to cross, come close to
but not totally on 462, make right on alley way & into tree named
streets of Wrightsville ground zero, winding around & around &
finally on down big san fran like hill to 624 & the ductchman 6.65
miles according map- see it-http://www.usatf.org/routes/view.asp?
rID=82269 no part 2 as this time things to do, people to see, trees
to climb, tv to watch, Saranac is me. Next time maybe. so thanks
fred for figuring/plotting/marking trail. that quarry area is way
ok on sunny/cloudy/foggy/rainy/snowy or any kinda day.
