Hey Referees!
Come learn about an exciting new form of soccer for people in powered wheelchairs – Power Soccer! A clinic will be held in San Jose on August 4, 2007 which will introduce you to this new sport and provide certification as a power soccer referee. Please note; this is an all-volunteer activity.
Power soccer is the first competitive team sport designed and developed specifically for power wheelchair users. This action packed team sport combines the skill of the wheelchair user with the speed and power of the chair itself, to participate in an extremely challenging game. The rules of Power Soccer are similar to soccer and equipment needs are minimal. The game is played on a regulation indoor basketball court with a 13" soccer ball. Two teams of 4 attack, defend and maneuver the ball in an attempt to score and prevent goals. The game is non-stop in action, similar to an indoor soccer game.
Power Soccer has been played in various countries around the world for more than 30 years, but is just now exploding onto the public scene. The US Power Soccer Association (USPSA) was recently created to govern Power Soccer in the United States. The inaugural Power Soccer World Cup will be played in Japan in 2007.
