I have a friend who is trying to sale his Cannondale Raven dual suspension mountain bike.  He is asking $300 and said he originally purchased it for $3000 a few years ago. He said he used it very little so it is in almost new/ excellent condition.  He would include pump, gloves, speedometer, etc.  He is about 5'11" if that helps at all with the size of the bike.  This is all the information I have.

If interested please contact him at z_wimert@...

Brooks,

Your e-mail, below, is something that we can receive with open minds, because it was written respectfully.

USAC keeps writing about category three racing.  That's something that keeps observers asking questions.

As a newly initiated forty-something, I know what tough investment is like.  (ie: investing in cat 3)  It is like sitting on a curb in ragged cloths, while a car splashes cold, slushy, dirty water on you.  People wonder what's wrong with you.  But you know that you have used your resources to care for an elderly parent, a child in school, or whatever reaches deep down inside.  So it's OK.

When USAC stops writing about category three, the questions may taper off.  Maybe that would comfort some of the LAMBRA audience.

Saludos,
Ed

1.  Focus on Development ... it is more important to learn how to race than to CAT up.  LAMBRA would benefit from taking it's top 10 CAT3's and CAT4's to races out of state every year.  This would be a composite racing team but would be excellent experience.  Racing and winning against 20-30 riders here is different from fighting for wheels against 100 of your peers in Texas

2.  Let guys win before forcing them to CAT up.  The higher you move up the winning is few and far between (with some exceptions)

3.  If master's races were for 40+ or 45+ you would see higher #'s at CAT races

That's all!  Happy racing and thank you to all of those who put on races and who race.

We will be hosting a ride December 6th in Mobile and would love for ya'll to
make it. Its a great opportunity to bring riders from different cycling
communities together for a fun training ride. The route will begin atInfinity
Bicycles, 2039 Airport Blvd Mobile, AL 36606; large parking area in back. Its a
70 mile route with some flats but also good rolling hills. There is not a set
pace, however, this is not a race so the idea is to keep everyone together. That
being said, there will be an opportunity to test the legs a little in the
closing 10 miles or so. At about mile 53, there will be an attack zone which
lasts until the top of the Cochran bridge, roughly mile 63. First one up Cochran
will receive a 100 dollar gift certificate to Infinity Bicycles, 2nd place gets
50 dollar gift certificate, 3rd gets 25 dollar gift certificate. (shop will be
open day of to utilize your prize). Riders will wait at top of Cochran and
re-group before riding the last 7 miles back to start/finish.

There is a Mellow Mushroom across the street and there will be tables reserved
so bring money for beer/pizza!

Here is the link to the route:

If possible, please RSVP to herringgascycling@... in order to have
appropriate number of tables reserved for lunch. Thank you and hope to see you
all there!

RIDE STARTS AT 9:00 a.m.!

Jay,

Thank you for your public response.  In addition, you may be interested to know the following.  M9 has TWICE entered into a sponsoring/supporting role with LAMBRA via LAMBRA's Champion jerseys, as well as having financially supported several previous races.   M9, again made itself available to LAMBRA last month, after being informed of LAMBRA's desire to replace the current manufacturer of their Champion jerseys.

Sponsorship is a two-way street.  Sponsors typically expect a ROI (return on investment) for their contributions.  Tell me Jay, how many LAMBRA teams currently race in M9?  Who has your team been purchasing it's kits from?

Only one LAMBRA team currently races in a brand connected with M9, and they are NOBC.  NOBC races in M9's sister company Giordana.

In previous decades, M9 sponsored professional European teams...the likes of GAN, BIC, etc., however internationally, M9 no longer sponsors individual teams.  Today, we provide sponsorship through a variety of other select venues, and we intentionally strive for a "win-win" relationship with each group we choose to sponsor.  (See attached photos - Six Days of Grenoble)

We will continue to be supportive of LAMBRA, as we are supportive of all of American cycling.

Thank you for your interest in M9.

Brian Jordan

PS - If you wish to personally debate the merits of the changes necessary (via bylaws, etc.) to make participation in LAMBRA thrive like never before, please feel free to contact me.

Hey Guys,

I didn't want to get into this discussion but Glenn made some excellent points. Us promoters do this for the love of the sport. I actually have a job requiring 10 hour days and when not working I try to train, manage my team, raise my kids and then promote the District Crit since no one else wants to promote a money losing venue. I do this for one reason --I love the sport. Now we can sit here all day and argue but the reality is that we live in Louisiana (or Mississippi, Northern Florida, etc...) where cycling is just not popular. This is reality, we do not have the numbers for many of these plans or opinions. I hear the argument about if we had a separate Cat 3 race more people would come--what happened at the District Road Race? We had a field of 12 riders who most all of them raced the day before as Masters. Many of the "3s" on this forum were not there.

The economics are simple, for every category that you separate you must pay police, pay whoever owns the course for added time, prizes, volunteers, etc... Until you walk in our footsteps you really don't understand. Last year we (Midsouth Masters) lost our main sponsor due to the economy for the District Crit, we could have folded but instead we were able to put on a race with prizes (Thanks to a couple of new sponsors) at a loss. What does a loss mean? Money out of my pocket, but again I love the sport and will do it again. M9, you want a Cat 3 race, then how about some corporate support? I hear a lot of talk but see no action, we had a pitiful 75 riders show up for the Districts, very few guys are willing to drive over two hours for the race, again reality. We couldn't even attract many of the Cat 4s from Baton Rouge or Jackson even after I changed the course due to a highly ranked 4 requesting that I do so. I am not faulting the guys for not showing, many riders don't like crits or have lives outside of cycling which may have interfered. If you mandate a separate Cat 3 field when we really don't have the demand, I will just co-promote a time trial with another club. Its hard for me to believe that by simplify adding a new category we will solve the ills of LAMBRA. Unfortunately young people in our states would prefer to play football, basketball, soccer, etc... Much less expensive sports than we have---reality. Hopefully collegiate cycling will help to get new faces in the sport. When you look at other states, they have much larger populations (Texas) better socio economics (Colorado/Tennessee) than we do to draw from as well as much more challenging and interesting terrain to have races on . This is not my opinion but reality.

My suggestion is this--leave the category to the promoter , its his money to loss. Those of you in Cat 4, move up and show that we have the numbers to support Cat 3 and just get better as Glenn did when he moved up and learn team tactics to take on Herring or LaSport (hell Matt Davis, Jeb Falgout and Brian Rizk did a good job of this). If I can break even, I'll have a separate race for any category. Next, those of you who live in the LAMBRA states---support your local organization, plain and simple money talks. Clubs should either combine efforts for larger venues instead of excessive time trials (easy money makers). Riders should support the district events, I know that they don't pay well but are really racing for a $100 prize on your $4000 bike?  Remember actions speak louder than words so those of you with strong opinions get involved, promote a race with all the categories you want and try and get sponsors (maybe M9) who will help you financially have a great race.

Sincerely,
Jay Scheib, President
Midsouth Masters Cycling Team

Jim:

The *current* LCCS rules and regulations are at http://www.lambra.org/cup/lccs_rules.pdf.  Although there are a couple of "legacy" events like Rouge-Roubaix, in general LCCS status requires separate races/prizelists for at least Cat. 1/2/3, Cat. 4, Cat. 5, Master 35+, Women and Juniors.  Optional separate or combined races/prizelists can be held for Master 45+ and Master 55+ in which cases those age groups are also scored separately for LCCS points.  Cat. 1/2 and Cat. 3 are scored separately even if they are combined into a single prizelist/race, although the intention was to encourage promoters to provide separate races when possible.  All other races must have separate prizelists/awards.  I have not yet sent out the summary of the LAMBRA business meeting, but there are a couple of relevant outcomes regarding the LCCS.  The per-rider LCCS surcharge was increased from $1 to $2, with the additional dollar going to a restricted account to be ultimately used to acquire an advanced finish line system (FinishLynx or chip timing, for example).  We also established a committee that is currently reviewing the LCCS rules and which will make recommendations for revisions as soon as possible.  Members of that committee are Chris Mogridge, Jason Meaux, Gary Gray, Frank Moak, Eric Spina.

In the past, the TCC criterium has been run with four categories that include Cat. 4/5 40+ and Cat. 4/5/ 10-39.

Thanks,
Randy.

2010 USAC racing licenses, both new and renewal, because available for purchase December 1. The renewal process is quick and easy.  You will need to go to www.usacycling.org and click on the “My USA Cycling” link. New members can also click on that same link to create their USAC accounts and purchase new racing licenses. Your USAC home page should include a link right above your name to "purchase/renew license."  Be sure to check your contact, club and team membership information on the "edit account" page and make any necessary corrections.  Once your membership renewal is completed, you can print out an "Authorization to Ride" at any time from the link on your USAC home page in case your license does not arrive in time for your next race.  Turnaround time to receive the actual license in the mail for me (about two weeks ago) was about one week.

You should also click on the "E-mail Opt-in" tab from your USAC home page and make the appropriate selections.  It would be helpful if you would make sure to check "Share my email address with my Local Association Representative (that means the President of LAMBRA).

At the end of the online renewal process, you'll be prompted to take a 10-minute survey. This survey helps USA Cycling tailor its services to meet your needs. Your feedback is very important, and all renewing members are strongly encouraged to complete the survey.”

This survey will be useful in helping make any changes to the Membership Program in the future.  Thank you to each of you for all of your assistance in growing the sport. me____________________________________________

I have a Cervelo P3C time trial bike and an R3 road bike for sale:

Cervelo P3 Carbon: 51cm

I bought the bike new in April 2008.  It has only been ridden in short time trials and the occasional training ride.  It is in perfect condition.  The bike retails new for $4,500.00 but with a cheaper crankset and cheaper aerobars.

Comes with a full Dura-Ace drive train.  53/39 crankset with 172.5mm crankarms.  Cervelo Brake set.  Profile Design T2+ Cobra Carbon Aerobars with Vision basebar.  I'll throw in the Easton training wheels that came with it and the Selle San Marco saddle.

Asking: $3400

Cervelo R3: 54 cm

I bought the frame new in July of last year.  White frame with black writing.  It was raced this season and a couple of races last season.  Frame has a sew small scuffs from rocks and such but is otherwise in perfect condition.  Frame-only retails for $3,100 ($6,000 with a Dura-Ace group).

Comes with full Campagnolo Record 10-speed group.  Crank is Record carbon Ultra Torque with outboard bearing cups, 53/39 with 172.5 mm crankarms.  I bought the group new when I bought the frame, so it's a year and a half old.

The fork is an Easton EC90 SLX, retails for $400-$500.

Also comes with a Thomson seatpost and an FSA Plasma integrated carbon bar/stem combo.  The bar is 42cm wide, stem is 100mm.  the FSA bar retails for about $550.  Seatpost retails for $90.

I'll throw in a set of training wheels.  I also have a few pair of race wheels that we can talk about if interested.

Asking: $4000

Note that both bikes have a lifetime warranty to the original owner (me) and I am happy to put the warranty through for the buyer if there is any problem with either bike.

Please email me directly at this address or call me (225.719.1112) if interested or with any questions.

Neither is particularly better or worse for racing, IMO.  You can get lower lows and no decrement to the high end w/ compact cranks unless you can't live without your 53x11.  If you're normal (IOW, 53x12 is plenty high enough for you and 39x27 is plenty low enough for you) you can get anything you need from either type of crankset.   The one benefit to compact cranks that I can think of that might really matter to someone living where the really low end gear isn't required (e.g. LA) is that your big ring/next to biggest cog gearing is much lower on a compact crank.

What this means is that when riding rolling hills you're a lot less likely to ever need to shift to the small ring..  If you don't shift to the small ring, you won't need to shift back to the big ring.  Makes it easier to respond to or initiate attacks over the tops of rollers.

Hey guys and gals,

I'm selling my Scott CR1 SL as a complete bike except for the pedals and
bottle cages. It is a 56 cm size frame. The color is a dark blue that shows the
carbon weaves very well. The bike is incredibly light and very stiff. Here is a
list of how it is built up:

Ritchey WCS Carbon Seatpost
Ritchey WCS Carbon Handlebars
Specialized Aluminum Stem
Fizik Aliante Seat
Fully Campy Chorus group with 172.5 cranks.
Fulcrum 5 wheelset w/ cassette.

All of the cables and the chain were replaced last October. The bike shows
normal signs of use and some minor scuffs that do not compromise the structure
or appearance of the frame. The bike was raced and ridden for 1.5-2 years.
Please email me with any questions you have regarding the bike, or if you desire
pictures.

Asking $2700 OBO

I am trying to locate a 45 ramped tooth front cog for a junior racer. Currently we are using a 45 tooth straight edge front cog. The ramped teeth should help his shifting. He is using a Shimano 105 gruppo.
Thanks for any help!
