Subject: Jack
Hi Ann,
We would appreciate it if you could forward the following to the racewalking
&
athletics community.
Thanks,
Catherine, Caroline, Luke, Lance & Melanie.
Jack died peacefully of mantle cell lymphoma on Thursday night, at Cranford
Hospice. In spite of the disease ravaging his body, his mind and sense of
humour
were still VERY intact.
We would like to thank you for all the kind words and sympathy people have
expressed.
Due to the sudden nature of his death, the family have chosen to have a
small,
quiet, private funeral service. The Jack we knew and loved was not the same
as
"Jack the Athlete" and we would like to farewell him, privately, in our own
way.
We appreciate how valued he was by others and we would be very happy for
your
organisation/s to hold a memorial service for him. He would have been very
proud
if the National Racewalking Championships chose to have an event named after
him.
We would like to request that any event named in his honour would be used to
fundraise for Racewalking NZ and/or Cranford Hospice.
In lieu of flowers or cards, a donation to Cranford Hospice in Jack's memory
would be appreciated.
With thanks,
Caroline, Lance, Melanie, Luke & Catherine.
