Best of luck to all attending the NZRWA relays meeting, whether as a competitor, spectator or official.
To those of you who have not previously competed in a judged or monitored walking event please keep in mind the fact that the Judges are not out to disqualify you.
They are there for the sole purpose of ensuring that the event is fair to all competitors competing under a couple of established specific rules. The Judges do this by cautioning competitors or, in the worst cases, issuing a red card.
The Judges, particularly those who have race walked themselves, would love to go home after the event without having issued cautions or red cards.
So all you have to concentrate on is the straightening of the forward leg and the maintaining of contact with the ground and you will ensure yourself of an enjoyable event. Ignore the presence of Judges until they caution you for a breach of the rules then concentrate on not repeating the fault in your technique.
Get out there, give it your best and enjoy yourselves.
Cheers, Paul.
