Hello all,
Is anyone else in as much shock as I? This weekend all of the memories
of Kenny came rushing back like a tidal wave and then to end the first race
of the season with Dale Earnhardt's death is just unbearable. What is
happening to our sport? He's one of the guys that just seems "invincible"
too. I think that Earnhardt was one of the most influential athletes of our
time and now he's gone. He made the sport HUGE and all that it is today. I
can't imagine watching a race without the Intimidator. It's so hard to watch
a horrific crash like Geoff Bodine's last year where a car somersaults and
becomes engulfed in flames and the driver still survives versus hitting the
wall and just bouncing off and dying. I am not much a Tony Stewart fan, but
after that first crash I could not help but break down into tears and just
hope that he was OK. I was so glad that he made it through and thought there
wouldn't be any more troubles in the race. I guess I was wrong. :( Before
the race today I told my parents there was going to be a death this year, I
just knew it. I don't mean to sound pestimistic, but I just had one of those
terrible gut feelings. It is so sad. I'm still shaking. He will be greatly
missed. I can't believe our recent tradegies in the sport. Although his
racing career was cut short, at least it was extremely successful. Anyone
would love to leave the sport with just half his stats. This will be a hard
one to take, my condolences to him, his family, and friends.
