Hi everyone, I'm Katherine and from the Chicagoland area. Though I never
got to meet Kenny, I still have some really great memories of being a fan of
his that I will never forget.
I'll always remember October 27th, 1998. Kenny was "involved" (however
involved the guests really get, I will never know) in an online hosted chat
at country.com. I had heard the news a couple weeks before hand and had my
questions ready to fire. I was SO excited! I got on the computer nice and
early and got in the chat room to be sure to be guaranteed a spot before the
room got full. Kenny ended up answering two of my questions! I couldn't
believe it. I was on cloud nine for a month, it was one of the best evenings
I had ever had.
Another memory of mine was when I had to baby-sit my 3-yr-old neighbor
down the street the night of the Richmond race in 1999. My neighbor was so
cute, I really got her into it. She was really brilliant for her age too. I
taught her how to recognize Kenny's red Texaco star on the hood of his car.
We would always say, "Go Kenny" whenever we saw him racing on the track. We
even started waving and saying "hi" and "bye" to Kenny when he entered and
left the pit area. It was so much fun watching her get as into it as I was!
Kenny is irreplaceable, I think that many of us know that now. He was a
rose that we never saw fully bloom in Winston Cup, which makes it even more
difficult. After Adam's horrific accident, all sorts of questions zoomed
through my mind. "How?" "Could this happen to MY Kenny?" It really made me
realize how dangerous racing really is. The healing process will be long and
hard, but I have found some things that have helped me that might help some
of you too. For one, listening to everyone else's stories of how and why
they are Kenny fans and whatnot. Pictures also help. Reading the message
boards has been a big help too. Also, try talking about it with other Kenny
fans. I know BellSouth -
Sponsorships has recently put up some new pictures of Kenny and they
brought back a smile to my face that hadn't been there all weekend.
If anyone wants to e-mail me and talk about Kenny, please, feel free to
do so: ComputeKat@.... You can also instant message me if you have AOL
or instant messenger. I must say, the amount of e-mails I have received from
this egroup has been more than I ever expected, but much fun. Kenny will be
dearly missed by all.
