I would like to correspond with other Kenny Irwin fans during this time, so
I will introduce myself also. My name is Ginger and I live in Virginia,
about 24 miles from Bristol Motor Speedway. I began following Kenny when he
was in the Craftsman Truck Series because I liked his smile and his curly
hair. I was thrilled for Kenny when Robert Yates selected him to drive the
28 car. I keep remembering his words at that press conference, "To say I'm
the luckiest guy in the world probably isn't saying enough."
I knew Kenny was something special when he qualified on the front row for
his first Winston Cup race in 1997. I admired him greatly when he faced the
media after failing to qualify for the Coca-Cola 600 in 1998. I sympathized
with him in 1999 when everyone, except Felix Sabates, seemed to doubt his
ability.
I was excited for Kenny when he began driving the 42 car. It was a new
beginning; a chance for him to show his talent and to quiet the doubters.
I, along with my 4-year old son, finally got to see Kenny at an autograph
session before the Bristol race this spring. My son plays with the Starting
Lineup figures of race car drivers and had one of Kenny with him that night.
When we got to the table, my son held up the figure for Kenny to see. Kenny
said, "Well look at that!" He personalized a postcard for my son and also
autographed the back of the Starting Lineup figure. We left the table as
even bigger Kenny Irwin fans.
I have been in a state of disbelief since Friday. I was sad about Adam
Petty, but it hurts even more when your favorite driver loses his life. I'm
almost ready to give up racing. I am so glad that a recent edition of
"Inside Nascar" magazine named Kenny as one of racing's "Most Beautiful
People". He certainly was wonderful to my son in March. Now he will always
be young and always be beautiful. I'd love to hear from other Kenny Fans.

Dear God Not Again
Could the reports be wrong? Surely this can't happen again, not here at New
Hampshire, not now, not Kenny Irwin. Dear God ... not again, please.
Genuine is the word that comes to mind over and over again. He seemed to
have a genuine smile that was contagious, a genuine twinkle in his eye
(almost pixie like and so adorable), and he seemed genuinely happy to be
involved with the fans and his racing career.
Marty Tyler says it all , please read this article.

One of the many beautiful poems:
When I am gone, release me, let me go
I have so many things to see and do.
You mustn't tie yourself to me with tears
Be happy that we had so many years.
I gave you my love. You can only guess
How much you gave to me in happiness.
I thank you for the love you each have shown
But now it's time to travel on alone.
So grieve awhile for me, if you must
Then let your grief be comforted by trust,
It's only for awhile that we must part
So bless the memories with your heart.
I won't be far away, for life goes on.
So if you need me, call and I will come.
Though you can't see me or touch me,
I'll be near
And if you listen with your heart, you'll hear
All of my love around you, soft and clear.
And then, when you must come this way alone.
I'll greet you with a smile and "Welcome Home."
