I understand the disappointment. I know they are always very busy........but still? I haven't heard from them since before xmas myself. I parked my Motorhome at the campgrounds this fall and I went out to get it a couple of weeks ago and I saw neither K or R there  some workmen, they are building a Dorm for the kids to stay in now. It looks like it is going to be pretty big. I am just glad that all of you continue to remember Kenny............he is still missed. I is coming up to 3 yrs since Bill died and that doesn't seem possible either. Kenny and Uncle Bill are probably having a racing ball up there.

I too am happy to hear from Jane, Its been awhile but
when I think of contacting the foundation, I often
think Id like to talk to Jane, Because you always
replied to my emails, while Kennys sister Kelly rarley
replied even when I gave her 2 boxes full of stuff for
the first auction (maybe shes busy)

I have a garage full of sheetmetal from bolth cars and
the truck, firesuits, signed helmets, a never used Coca
Cola 12x24 billboard, that would look great on some
wall at the camp and even a Havoline and BellSouth
coke machine, just to name a few things Ive wanted to
give them.

Kelly said she would put all the autographed photos I
gave them on a wall with a plaque saying they came
from me but that was 4 years ago and she still hasnt
sent me the photo of that wall.

Im not mad at all, just dissapointed.

I have wanted to give them more through the years and
help put smiles on childrens faces but dont because
they dont reply to my emails, Im glad Nascar has
reconized the Foundation.

Any way I have my memories and will never forget Kenny
calling me Phoenix because he couldnt rember my name
but he knew he would see me in Phoenix at the end of
the season, where I would bug him for more photos and
autographs, the last time I saw him in Fontana
California, I didnt ask him for either,I just talked
to him and I thought Ill see him at Phoenix :(

Any way Ill never forget him and Ill continue to add
#42 to the end of my signature when I sign documents
or VISA reciepts.

Miss you Kenny, Good to hear from you Jane, and all
the rest of you its been to long, Take Care everyone

Jane,

It's great to hear from you again!  I hope that you and your family are doing well.  I, too, find it hard to believe that it's been 7 years.  With my sons growing up, the years have just sped by for me.  To put it in perspective, my youngest son was 3 months old seven years ago, and my 11 year old was only a 4 year old.  Wow.

My 11 year old remembers when Kenny drove the Havoline and Bellsouth cars, and my 7 year old still includes Kenny in his races in our basement floor.  He has a 1/24 Raybestos truck of Kenny's, and it is one of his favorites.  I love it when I overhear him playing and announcing, "And coming through turn 3, it's Kenny Irwin!"  I know the truck could be considered a collectible, but I like to think that Kenny would prefer a child playing with the truck rather than sticking it on a shelf to collect dust.  I love each and every ding on that diecast, because that shows how much it is loved and used in home races by a child.
Have a great day!

Kenny left an impression on every life he touched. He surely was one of a kind. It just kills me that more sites and the tv doesn't elaborate more on that day. I personally make sure I email every site I can and I hope every one on here does the same!!!

Hi Barb!

Good to hear from you too!  I hope all is well with you.  I can't quit thinking about Kenny, either, especially when the Bristol race rolls around.  I only got to see him up close and in person once, and that was the Thursday before the Bristol race.  I still think of the 42 car as his car, especially since Havoline is the sponsor.

I'm hoping that Jeff is going to have a good year this year.  However, it doesn't seem like Jimmie has missed a beat since the 2007 season started.  Have a good day!

Hi Ginger

Yeah its been a while since Ive seen Kenny items, in
2001 I found some bumper stickers,I should have bought
them all, found out later they were rare, I gave the
last one to Brett Bodine to put on the brick yard car.

Checkout the souviner cities outside the tracks, they
have old stuff.

Hey Eric!

I'm glad you're still around and still collecting Kenny memorabilia!  I only go to the Bristol and Martinsville races now, but I always scour the souvenir tents for Kenny stuff.  I haven't found anything new in a couple of years, but I'm not giving up.

Have a good day!

I just bought one of Kennys helmets from Nascar of all

Hey everyone! Since no one has posted in a while, I thought I would
break the silence. As you know, Bristol race weekend is here, an event
that brings back so many memories. Jerry, your blog about Alan
Kulwicki has inspired me to tell my own Bristol stories. I live in
Southwestern Virginia, approximately 12 miles from Bristol and 24 miles
from the track. I remember Alan's death very well. It was 1993, and I
was a very green, recent law school graduate who was waiting on results
from the bar exam. Race weekend is a big event in our area. In those
days, many of the local businesses would have drivers signing
autographs the Thursday evening before the race. My husband and I had
driven around to see if we could pick up any of the driver handout
cards anywhere. On the 11 o'clock news that night, the lead story was
about a plane crash in the Blountville area and about area fire
fighters going to the scene. When we got up the next morning, the
Bristol newspaper headlined Alan Kulwicki's death. We were stunned. A
few short months earlier, Alan had dazzled the racing world when he won
the championship in Atlanta. Now, he was gone. I also remember the
image of Alan's hauler leaving the track with Doyle Ford waving the
checkered flag in tribute. Alan's death cast a long shadow over the
rest of the weekend. Somewhere at home I have a picture of a wreath
placed at souvenir row where Alan's souvenir trailer would have been
parked.

The Saturday before that race, fourteen years ago (yikes), some friends
from work and I got up very early to eat breakfast at the Bonfire
Restaurant on Volunteer Parkway because we heard that Davey Allison ate
there on race weekends. The server was just getting ready to take our
order when we saw Davey heading toward the checkout counter. As we
jumped up, one of the girls in my group told the server, "Honey, you'll
have to come back." We were going to see Davey! We didn't even get
his autograph, but we all got our picture made with him, individually
and in a group. I have the picture sitting on my desk today. Davey
acted like he had all the time in the world for us. From that day, I
went from being a casual Nascar fan to a devoted one. I bought my
first 1/64 diecast car (of Davey, of course) that afternoon. Sadly, we
would lose Davey about 3 months later.

Like Jerry, I picked Jeff Gordon as my favorite driver after Davey's
death. He and I were "rookies" the same year and I'm so happy about
all that he has accomplished. In 1997, Kenny Irwin caught my eye when
he was racing in the truck series. I was thrilled for him when Robert
Yates named him the driver of the 28. In 2000, Kenny appeared at Race
Night, an event that the Food City stores in our area host every
Bristol race weekend. I got Kenny's autograph that evening and had a
chance to wish him good luck. I still miss seeing him on the track.

Nascar has changed so much since 1993. Some changes have been good,
others not so good. I don't like the fact that the Busch Series is
dominated by Cup drivers now. I don't like the fact that the drivers
who post one of the top 43 qualifying speeds may not make the race if
they're not in the top 35 point positions. I don't like the fact that
the drivers are inaccessible now. In 1993, several top name drivers,
including Davey, Dale Jarrett, Kyle Petty, and Jeff Gordon, played in a
softball game before the Spring race in Martinsville. What are the
chances of that happening now? I wonder what Alan, Davey, and Kenny
would think of all the changes?

I hope that all of you are doing well. I miss reading your posts.
Have a great day! Ginger

Greetings one and all. I was a big fan of Kenny when he was with the
28 team a few years ago. Ever since his death, I have been wondering
whether or not he was a man of faith. Does anyone in the group have
personal knowledge of Kenny's spiritual life?

Hi all!  Actually, I thought of you all on the 7th also.  I still wear Kenny shirts when I go to the races, and I still get positive responses.  When we just went to the Richmond IRL and Silver Crown races, I had 2 strangers come up and talk to me.  Very cool...  One thing I did notice in last week's NASCAR Scene, though, was that they did not have Kenny's birthday listed in August to send birthday wishes.  Have a good day!  Sue

I still miss Kenny and still think of the 42 as his car.  I can't believe that Juan Pablo Montoya will be driving it next year.  This year at Bristol and Martinsville I wore a lanyard with my Kenny pins on it.  I hope that one or two people saw it and thought of him.  I'm going to do that for every race I attend.  I don't want anything to happen to my Kenny hats now since they're almost impossible to replace, but the pins are durable and also serve as a reminder.

Hey everyone!  I was reading my new issue of Nascar Scene magazine last night and was pleasantly surprised when I saw a picture of our Kenny on page 75 in their weekly feature, "The Way it Was".  It was a wonderful photo of Kenny holding his Texas trophy high after his win in the truck series race there in 1997.  He is smiling and his blue eyes are glowing.  It brought back great memories.

Have a great weekend!

I also agree. You'd think that when Kenny and Adam had similar accidents at
the same track... I wasn't a fan of Dale's but I had respect for him ... but
it would be nice for people to remember Kenny more, especially nice for his
fans.

you know i mean no disrespect either, but i truly believe that it's nascar's fault that dale died in the first place. if they had paid attention for 5 seconds to kenny's death, or tony's or adam's, they would've instituted the safety measures halfway through the 2000 season and dale sr would still be alive. and now they're crowing about how many advances they made since dale sr died? what a load of (excuse my french) crap. the ultimate shame that nascar basically killed their most popular driver. shame on them.

My sentiments exactly!  I saw a report on Nascar safety on ESPN the other day, and they pretty much stated that the 3 deaths in 2000 didn't amount to much in the way of opening eyes to safety, while Earnhardt's death really shook people up.  I thought it was a good program, because it drove home the point that when Kenny, Adam and Tony Roper all passed away, no one seemed to bother doing anything, but when a "legend" passes the same way, all of a sudden everyone jumps out of their skins to do something.  Not enough things like that are said often enough.

I've had a bit of trouble finding ANY decent women lately so I joined up at this place a couple of weeks ago http://www.matchsearching.info/typo . And so far been doing pretty well, just chatting to a few girls near me on Webcam and via the mail system on the place, but this is the first one I've lined up. So anyway, wish me luck guys!!
