I'm a rider out of Bakersfield. I plan on doing an overnighter starting at
Sherman Pass. The plan is to head up to Sherman Peak then down to Cedar Canyon
and then, either hit the River Trail, out at the bridge, a few miles on the hwy
down to Fairview and then Whiskey Flat to Kernville or take the Rincon Trail
from Cedar Canyon all the way down to Ant Canyon. Question: are the Rincon
Trail conditions friendly to mtn. bikes? Sand? Hikeabike? I saw that
Sierrasojouner did the first part of the ride down to the bridge. And how
technical is the 4 miles of the River Trail? thanks.

You can always skip the river trail and ride the Rincon trail all the way out to the highway and down to Fairview to connect with the whiskey flat trail. ...

I am a pretty marginal mountain biker and I love the 4-mile trail. I do have to walk parts, but it is super scenic and some of the rock challenges are fun....

I agree- the River Trail (4-mile Trail) is a major highlight of the ride! The Rincon option is far less scenic with lots of hot sandy steep hills (far more...
