I've been playing with these hubs for a week now and I am
completely enamored of them.
But I felt dumb talking about them more than I already had.
So I just kept my mouth shut and continued to fall deeper
and deeper in love with them.
Then something happened.
Shay Cameron put my feelings into words in an email. I
should wait for his OK, but he NAILED them and I am
compelled to share.
Please forgive me, Shay.
My father has a long-time obsession with
espresso cups from little neighborhood cafes
in Italy, the thick rounded ones that are
built for a million lips and a million washes,
nice and heavy in the hands, great simple
design meant for every day use and quality of
life. I've had three hour conversations with
him about the appreciation of these simple
objects. I explained my obsession with these
hubs to him yesterday in that context. I think
he got it. The weight in the hands, the
smoothness and craft in the materials, the
simplicity of design and lack of pretense, the
durability and function, the enjoyment of
using a really well made tool in everyday life.
