Hello all,
I am new here and just ordered my first Trike. I got one of the last KMX Cobras
and hope it ships out this week. I would like to get some accseories for it but
don't know where to start. First thing, since it is so low I'd like a flag. Can
anyone tell me where to get something OTHER than the orange flag on kids bikes?
I'd like something as visible but a little cooler. I am also looking at the
Panier wrack. Is the stock one that KMX sels the only one that will fit on it?
And.. where do I get nice bags to go on the wrack? Any other advice for a new
Trike owner that you can send would be great!

Thanks!
Gabe in NJ (USA)

Hey guys,

Well, unfortunately I've decided to sell my KMX Typhoon. It just
doesn't get used as much as I had hoped. It's in mint condition, with
a custom headrest, panier rack and bags. If anyone is interested or
wants pictures, PM me or make offer. I live in Redlands, CA. Thx.

Viper & Cobra? I'm considering one for general road use &
touring...

Ana is correct.
The RT was an X class with 1 1/8" Stelvio on 16" (349) rims on
front, a 26" sporting the same 1 1/8" Stelvio tire and an aluminum
rear fork. I have an X class that I converted to an RT.

Hi,

If I recall correctly, The KMX RT was a normal X Class but with a
lightweight wheel set (and probably skinnier tyres?) and fork. It's
like an X more suited for touring or road.

You are traffic too…

Could you be affected by the cyclist inferiority superstition?

As long as you work within the rules of traffic and ride assertively,
and while riding your trike you're one less car either way! :-)

Hello Bruno,

I own the KMX viper. I got it in August this year. I cannot say
enough good things about this kart. I have taken it off-road,
commuting, just for fun trips, etc.

I was really surprised how well it actually handled and performed on
some really decent mountain bike trails. It takes everything you
give it and more (I feel like a saleman).

My only complaint is not being able to ride it as much. I really
bought it for a combo commuting trike as well as something to bang
around on mountain bike trails. I have been weary of taking it on
pure work commuting trips through downtown area. This maybe just
some nervousness about the extra attention and / or I really don't
want to cause extra problems in traffic

I guess it depends on the kind of usage you're thinking for the trike.
Having the possibility to add fairing (Borealis) to it is surely an
advantage.

either a KMX Viper or Cobra from their 2008 model range. I am also
watching eBay for a used/secondhand ICE trike. From what I
understand, a secondhand ICE could be a better buy in the long-term...

Oh! I can't really tell, but to me it looks like an X with with smaller
tires (maybe a larger rear wheel but with almost the same total wheel
diameter, is that bigger than 24"?). I don't know if there were any
official versions like that, maybe someone who had contact with the
early days of KMX Karts, but the photo was added in 2007, and don't if
there was any special version called RT. I don't know if Alan is still

Currently the models available are those on the site. Are you searching
to acquire a KMX trike?

Is there something more you wanted to know about them?

Thanks for replying Bruno. If you check the Photos folder "Scotts

wheel...Do you anything about this machine?

The X and ST were the previous KMX adult models. :-)

Is there anything particular you want to know about them?

Sorry for the delay, had added it to Flickr, but missed sending the

Barry from KMX told me he had thought on creating a conversion kit but
the costs were too high to make it viable.

I can try to ask him for any sketches for it if he has them, though.

Hi! :-)

They aren't compatible. The ST seat has the mount you already know
that is secured by the screw that secures the rear fork on the frame,
the new seat has a new mount that screws on the frame. The rear mounts
are different too. When I have the time I'll take some photos of both
and send the link of the photo set to the list.

I think there will be an accessories mount for the boom in the future,
but I don't know if it is backwards compatible...

Any chance you threw out the black plastic sleeve? It looks like trash
but is needed for the boom, or else it will slip. It's a PITA to put
in, but once in it works great. Good luck.

Hi,

Yes, I had the same problem of the boom creeping back in after a few
miles of riding. On the advice of the people at my local bike shop, I
added a shim cut from a beer can between the boom and the frame and
this solved it.

Hey Dave,

The only pictures I have seen were the ones on BROL. I've looked but
there is nothing else around that I've managed to come up with.
I want to replace my Stein this year, which was one of the first ones
he built. If you know what I mean:-)
I've been looking at KMX for a couple of years now. These new models
may have made the wait worth my while. The new trikes from Sun in
that same BROL piece looked nice too. I was close last year, either an
Actionbent most likely the Apoyo or KMX and I wound up doing nothing.
I heard that Apoyo had some frame issues too, but I'm not crazy about
aluminium so.
There is just something about the KMX that draws me, they look
bulletproof. After my Stein experience that's what I'm looking for.

Regards
Jim
