To add to Dave's comments, I have an ST 'Custom' which was a KMX demo
model that had decent wheels, triple chainset, etc. fitted by KMX for
road use, so they can be upgraded if you want. However, in their
basic form, I agree that the X class is a much more useful machine
than the ST class. I only use mine on road and wouldn't have
considered the basic ST, for the reasons that Dave has said about the
lack of gears and the poor rolling resistance of the tyres. I
actually think the price difference between the ST and X is small
considering the improvements you get.
