RE: [KMXKartsowners] Re: Shifting problems

I have had the chain pretty close.  Do check to make sure the hanger isn’t bent inwards or the derailleur is straight.  (it should appear to run in line a looking from the top or from the rear)

Hey Dave,

Thanks for the help.  It does look like the chain is a bit too long, so I'll take a link or two out and see how it goes.  Does the chain normally run rather close to the rear wheel as it exits the tube?  That just seemed a bit odd, but I couldn't figure out what I might have done in assembly that may be wrong.  Maybe Im being over critical ;-)  It does work though.

Thanks again.

Bob

It sounds as if that may be the case.  when the chain is on the
smalles gear on the front and back, it should be taunt just off the
cog on the derailleur.  in turn, with them on the big gears on both
front and back, the derailleur should just be extended out but not
straight.  If you need to break the chain, get a fast link to
reconnect.  It is easier to remove for cleaning also.

strangely

close to horizontal???  Is this normal, or is the chain a bit long?

Thanks in advance for your help.
