KMX Trike Ride
I know it is not hard to outrun a Geo Metro but I did it anyway (on
my KMX Trike). Today I participated in the Bob Lebow charity ride
for the Terry Reilly Health Services (please read up on it at
http://www.trhs.org/) I rode my kmx with a 2" foam seat back. After
leaving the High school in Nampa, ID I turned west and hit the wind.
For 20 miles it was wind, seal coated gravel road and the many butts
with seats stuck in them passing me. This would be my first trip
over 10 miles on a trike so I prepared myself. Water and many layers
of clothing. The first big hill I came to I found out the bolts on
the back bracket holding the seat in place were not there. I made
seat adjustments and was on my way and there it was...A red Geo
metro right behind me. I topped the hill and was off. i had him in
my rear mirror and then i started down a hill on a windy road. with
the wind in my face I reached speeds of 20 mph but it was still
behind me. Finally my first rest stop at the clinic in Marsing (see
small towns of Idaho No one knows about) the Geo pulled up in the
parking lot. He was being a gentleman and let me fuel up. I was
riding with my brother in law (Bald_Bent_rider) and we were off. the
road smoothed out for about a mile and then hard packed gravel
again. with the wind at my back i was able to keep speeds of 12 and
14 while bouncing around on 16" wheels and there was the metro again
right behind me. On the hills He would catch up to me but on the
straight aways, again i held the lead. My bro-in-law (Steve) got
ahead of me until the next rest (20 miles) and at that rest stop the
Red Geo turned around and said his good byes. Apparently he had to
go race the bikes that were behind me. 55 miles into the trip I saw
the Metro one last time, He passed me following a group of bikes. He
might have been a cop or a construction worker (I couldn't tell) but
he had a yellow light flashing and a sign that said S.A.G. (probably
some secret bike police) I sure am glad I kept the speed under the
limit. I can not afford a citation. I ended the trip at mile 62 or
65 or 64 (whichever speedo you believe) and had a plate of food
waiting for me. I was tired but I had my glory by beating the Red
Geo Metro
