First let me start by saying that about three years ago I tried to ride my
Catrike pocket off road. I had a ball but when I attempted to climb a steep hill
the boom would twist and believe me there is nothing more unsetteling than being
half way up a steep grade with your feet and legs twisted around your boom and
being clipped in and not being able to get out quickly. Anyway I gave it up
after about three rides but have been searching ever since for the answer and I
found it. The KMX Cobra an afforadable off road trike.
The ride was great. I rolled over everything, most knarly roots and some a
fairly decent size. I bounced and swayed as it tracked through all the dips and
rises. It climbed very well although there was some slipping of the rear wheel
on the really steep and loose gravely hills. I think some of this just might be
my peadal stroke. I covered around 6/7 miles of trails, some good packed gravel
others rooty with unevn terrrain. I attempted some single tracks and did get
stuck on one trail between a fence and tree. Will have to find away around it
since it is one of the nicer tight and twisting trails. Some of the other single
track I rode I was half up on the side with one tire while rear kept the center
of the trail. Lots of fun!!!
All in all a great time and I think the ride was even smoother than some of my
road rides.
One of my fears was dogs. The area is a multi use trail and people will often
walk or run with their dogs on some of the trails and sometimes the dogs will be
off leash. Yes we have a leash law but some people are more privilaged than
others and the laws don't apply to them. Enough said! Anyhow I did pass dogs and
most of them while curious stayed by their owners or the owners put a strangle
hold on them keeping them from running at me. Will have to be on the lookout in
the future and figure what I will do the day one does come at me.
I posted some pics in my album. No action shots since I don't have a video
camera and I was riding alone. Enjoy!
Cheers!
