Today's JMC "Cruisin Clinton on the 4th" Ride may have been a record
breaker - 133 cyclists participated in three different rides! JMC
also welcomed 62 new members to our club today! In addition, we
conducted a Cycling Skills Clinic for Kids, followed by a Kids &
Family Fun Ride. Fifteen kids and parents enjoyed a 10 mile ride
together - a great way to start the family holiday!
JMC partnered with the Clinton Parks and Recreation Dept. to
conduct "Cruisin Clinton on the 4th". Under the leadership of Ray
Holloway, Executive Director, and Gisele Champlin, Parks and
Recreation staff provided two staffed rest stops and refreshments,
SAG support, communications, medical transport, lunch support, and
great planning and logistics capabilities. They welcomed us to
Traceway Park which featured plenty of paved parking, clean
restrooms, and a safe and convenient start and finish area.
Many thanks and our sincere appreciation goes to all who made this
club ride a wonderful success:
* Ride Leader Darrell McGraw for course development, marking, and
overall leadership, planning, and coordination;
* Jeff Finch for leading the metric century ride, assisting with
course development and overall planning, plus delivering bike
helmets for any kids who might need them to participate;
* Becky Adams for leading the 30 mile ride, procuring special goody
bags for all the kids, and taking her leadership responsibilities
seriously by investing time from her Sunday afternoon to preview the
course;
* Howard Graylin for leading the Kids' Safety and Cycling Skills
Clinic and then assisting Gary Gray in leading the Kids and Family
Fun Ride;
* Gary Gray for leading the Kids and Family Fun Ride and procuring
20 youth bike helmets so any kids who showed up for the ride without
a helmet would not be turned away;
* The Pro Bike / Regions Bank Cycling Team for riding in the metric
century and inspiring all of our recreational, youth, and beginning
level riders;
* Pizza Hut of Clinton for providing lunch;
* McDade's Markets for providing our rest stop refreshments;
* Jackson Coca-Cola and Office Depot for providing bottled water and
gatorade;
* Todd Harris, Cameron Alt, and Andrea Alt for staffing our
registration operation;
* Ray Holloway and Gisele Champlin of Clinton's Parks and Recreation
Dept. for their wonderful hospitality and commitment to making this
JMC ride a grand success (they already invited us to come back next
year on the 4th of July for an even better club ride!);
* Clinton Parks and Recreation staff for supporting JMC with staffed
rest stops, SAG support, communications, medical transport, and
lunch delivery; and
* All the JMC members who enjoyed their love of cycling and
fellowship!
Unfortunately, Pam Cox and Guy Edwards were both injured after
falling during the metric century ride. Please keep them in your
thoughts and prayers as they heal and recover.
