Hey JQ Runner,

We are NOT running at Jack Quinn's on October 7th, instead we will be at Boulder Running Company  for a special event with Runners World, PowerBar and Josh Cox. Please see the advertisement attached below. Please let as many of your fellow running buddies know, Jack Quinn's will NOT have the food or drink specials for that night.

The Peace Officers Memorial Run is happening on October 18th and is $15 for Jack Quinn's runners. There will be special forms for JQ Runners Club at all of our Tuesday events, so make sure to join the team for this special race. More race details can be found at active.com  but you will have to pay a fee to sign up for the race online.

Finally, Jeff Galloway  will be coming down to the club Oct 21st.  I will email more details later, but Jeff is writes in Runners World every month and writes training books for every aspect of running and walking. He is known for the run-walk method for long distance running.

See you out on the course!

Hey runners,

Congrats to many of our friends that competed in the Pike's Peak Ascent/Marathon this weekend. And thanks to the many JQ volunteers that helped out with the event. Though the weather was wet and the ground was muddy the volunteers still showed up and the racers still ran! If you raced or volunteered make sure to wear your shirt/jackets on Tuesday so we can get a group picture.

If you would like to be a volunteer for a local race The American Discovery Trail Marathon on September 1st needs your help. We will collect names at next Tuesday's run. More details can be found here: http://www.adtmarathon.com/

The second annual Cripple Creek Crawl' will happen on September 27th.  This is a running/biking relay from Colorado Springs to Cripple Creek.  After the finish many participants will gamble and party the night away up there Saturday and travel back on Sunday.  RSVP before Sunday, Sept. 14 if you are planning to stay the night at the Golden Eagle for this event.  Ask those that have done it before...it is a great time!
The web page provides more specifics:  www.cripplecreekcrawl.blogspot.com

Hey Y'all,

Jack Quinn's Runners Club is changing venues next Tuesday, July 8th to avoid the crowded rodeo days parade downtown.  We will be running from Boulder Running Company  at 3659 Austin Bluffs Pkwy # 32, Colorado Springs, CO  starting at our regular 6pm and 6:15 pm times.  After the run, we will meet behind the running store to hang out and eat.  Committee members will be selling freshly grilled hot dogs and chips after the run for $3.00, while supplies last.  Make sure to bring a chair to sit and hang out while you eat!  Please bring your own water or gatorade.  No alcohol is allowed.

Please help us spread the word of this venue change at this next run.  As there will be NO BEER SPECIALS OR RUN at Jack Quinns that evening, in fact you would be lucky to even find a parking spot with 30,000+ people descending onto downtown.

July 15th - Adidas night.  A representative from Adidas will be at Jack Quinn's Tuesday night run with shoe giveaways!  Come check it out!

Running Buddies,

Jack Quinn's Running Club will be celebrating its 2nd anniversary on June 10th, 2008 (tomorrow) at Jack Quinn's.  To thin out the running crowd there will be three waves 5:45, 6:00, and 6:15. Also, awesome raffle-prizes from local businesses and sponsers--money from raffle will benefit the Trails and Open Space. We use their trails anyways, so might as well put the money towards something you will continue to use for years to come. Raffle tickets are priced $1.00 for 1 ticket,  $5.00 for 6 tickets, $10.00 for 15 tickets.  We will raffle the prizes at 7pm and 8pm, and you must be present to win.  Beer proceeds go to trails and open space too. Tribe, a local Colorado Springs band, will play live to make it more of a party atmosphere.  They will play on the stage upstairs. There will also be cake, food, and running! Yeah, all that fun stuff and you still get to fit in a workout.  See you there!

New black tshirts, show off your membership to your favorite running club in our fancy new black shirts. These $15 shirts are stylish enough to wear out on the town or even on a date. Check out the picture here, this is the back of the shirt and the front has a fancy JQRC in white lettering. Mens, womens, and kids sizes available! See any commitee member (the green shirted people) to purchase.

And finally, Ryan Shininger (the founder of Jack Quinn's Running Club) is at it again! He has created a new running club in Boulder, Colorado. So let your friends and relatives in Boulder know ASAP, or check it out for yourself. See below for more information.

Hey JQ Runners,

One of our fellow runners, Mo Ayala, is the event planner for the 1st Annual Fundraiser 5k run for the Tri-Lakes Monument Fire Fighters.  Mo has been at the Tuesday night runs promoting the 5k event and he will be at more runs this month.  The race is on June 1st and benefits the Monument Fire Fighters. Registration also gets you a technical shirt and a raffle ticket for sponsor give aways.  Check out the registration form at:  http://www.pprrun.org/entry_forms/2008_stop_drop_and_run.pdf

Mo will be collecting registrations at Jack Quinn's runs  for the next couple weeks.

Hey Runners and Welcome Newcomers!

We're moving to 2 start times, a 6pm and 615, to alleviate crowding on the run course.  Special edition black Jack Quinns Running  shirts are available for $15 at every Tuesday night run, cash only. White shirts are obtained only by running 10 Jack Quinns runs, the black shirts are the only shirts available for purchase.

We need help with weekly duties (in exchange for free beer) in addition to some special help with the 2-year Anniversary Party that's coming up on June 10. You can contact any of the Committee Members (people running in green shirts) during a run to help out, or email us off the website.

And final but not least, we have many new runners this time of year and everyone should know the rules. Yes, we have a short list of rules to prevent  people from endangering themselves and the people around them.  Please review the short list below. We also ask that runners please be nice to downtown patrons that are on the sidewalks. They are easily scared by runners chasing them down the sidewalk. We also want downtown companies to like the running club and see our group as an asset, not a hinderence.

Club Rules

1. You MUST sign a WAIVER to run with the club.
Jack Quinn's ain't held responsible if you injure yourself.

2. You are running at your OWN risk.
Obstacles such as fast moving cars, curbs, ice, parking meters, leprechauns, and confused tourists may be encountered at any time.

3. DO NOT JAYWALK!
That is naughty and you will be BOO'ed at by the mob of runners. And if thou witness a jaywalker, thou shall partake with the righteous mob in the BOO'ing of this fool.

4. TIP your BARKEEPS well.
C'mon, you're only paying two fifty a pint!

5. You MUST wear a HEADLAMP or carry a FLASHLIGHT during the winter season.
(Or set your hair on fire). You need to see and be seen! Only applies during winter time change.

6. Stay informed and get involved.
Join our Yahoo Group "JQRunners" and ask about volunteer opportunities.

Feeding Guidelines

Complimentary appetizer is for PARTICIPANTS only.
Consumers may be subjected to randon body sweat inspections at any time. Guests are welcome to socialize upstairs but don't get too close to a runner's food-we bite!

Appetizer is intended as an APPETIZER.
Really hungry? Go downstairs for fish and chips.

Limit ONE plate per person.
1 hand for food, 1 hand for beer- PERFECT! Please be considerate of other runners- you may return for seconds only after ALL runners have had an opportunity to eat.

Complimentary appetizer must stay UPSTAIRS.
The non-runners downstairs get jealous of our custom made carbo-fuel.

Thanks,

Lauren Johnson

Hey Runners,

Website Updated and New Photo Album
Attention Jack Quinn's Runners: As you may have noticed, our web site (www.jackquinnsrunners.com) has been undergoing some changes. With the help and hard work of JQRC member Kent Nelsestuen, we have moved data (out of necessity) from a server located in George Scapin's garage to another server. As part of this data migration, we have also move the photo album over to Picasa Web (hosted by Google).

As of today, the photo albums are now organized in chronological order (from the most recent photos to the least recent). Some historical albums are missing and some are duplicated. We are working to finish this migration soon when Kent is back in town.

From this point forward, photos must be sent to flasher@... to be included in the "Traveling Quinn's Shirts" photo album--instead of uploading them directly online. Please reduce photos to 1024x768 before sending. Members may send other photos related to JQRC (or other running events around town) to this e-mail address (flasher@...) as well to be included in any photo album.

St. Baldrick's Fundraiser
This week we will be collecting donations for St. Baldrick's.  Please bring your donations or collect information on how to donate online.

What is St. Baldrick's?
St. Baldrick's is the world's largest volunteer-driven fundraising event for childhood cancer research. Thousands of volunteers shave their heads in solidarity with children fighting cancer, requesting donations of support from friends and family.
St. Baldrick's affects people in an amazing way. Those who normally shy away from the very thought of childhood cancer find themselves compelled to support this cause. One look into the face of a brave child in treatment for cancer – and one laugh at the newly shorn head of a St. Baldrick's shavee – is all it takes!
Volunteers and donors have fun supporting a serious cause. Young cancer patients and survivors see how many people care, and researchers get funds from St. Baldrick's to help find cures!

How it all started
In 1999, three reinsurance executives decided to turn their industry's St. Patrick's Day party into a benefit for kids with cancer. What could they do to really turn the heads – and open the wallets – of their colleagues? The three planned to raise "$17,000 on the 17th," recruiting 17 colleagues to raise $1,000 each to be shorn. Instead, the first St. Baldrick's event, held on March 17, 2000, raised over $104,000!

St. Baldrick's funds at work
Since the St. Baldrick's Foundation became an independent charity in 2005, it has funded over $16 million in life-saving childhood cancer research:
Research grants - St. Baldrick's research grants enable doctors and scientists to pursue the most promising new cures for childhood cancer. Grants focus on saving lives and giving survivors the best possible quality of life.
Fellowships - Since 2005, the St. Baldrick's Foundation has funded 13 research fellowships, helping launch brilliant new careers in childhood cancer research. More young professionals will be funded each year.

Explosive growth
More than 18,000 shavees participated in 2007, 50% more than in 2006. They had head-shavings at more than 400 events in 13 countries.

Special Event on March 18th with Jack Quinns Running Club
In honor of St. Patrick's day we are wearing green. The greener and more St. Patrick's themed the better.  Make sure to wear your Jack Quinn's shirt or 5k on St. Patrick's Day shirt. Also, New Balance is coming to Jack Quinn's on Tuesday the 18th to let us try on shoes to test out on the run. This will be free if our members want to try on shoes.

Congrats to everyone who completed the 5k this weekend! I saw more Jack Quinns shirts at the 5k on St. Patrick's Day than any other race. Results are posted here: http://www.ccrtiming.com/races/results/2008/08StPats.htm

Be Kind and Watch for Pedestrians
Downtown Colorado Springs is usually busy with foot traffic every Tuesday night, and can sometimes be overcrowded with downtown patrons.  Please give space to these other pedestrians on the sidewalk  during the run. Don't rush, push, squeeze, sweat, or otherwise terrify our fellow pedestrians during the run.  Rather than dodge foot traffic you can avoid most people by continuing South on Cascade until Pikes Peak Ave, one block before Jack Quinn's. Check out this map to see our official running route including the Pikes Peak Ave turn: http://www.jackquinnsrunners.com/Route.php

Happy Green Day!

Hey Runners,

Two announcements:

First off, make sure you pick up the March Runners World to see a mention of Jack Quinn's running club and a picture. We are mentioned as a great combination of running and drinking, the newest trend for 2008!

Also a quick reminder for you to sign up for the Jack Quinn's 5K St. Paddy's Day Race that takes place on Saturday March 15th.  This race takes place in downtown Colorado Springs and is the first race of the season. Next Tuesday is the last day to sign up through JQ running club for a chance to win some prizes through the club. Registration papers will be available at our run next week. More details:

5K FOR ST. PATRICK'S DAY RUN: The 10th Annual Grand Prix of Running series officially kicks off on Saturday, March 15, with the "5K For St. Patrick's Day" Run in Downtown Colorado Springs. The Series includes "Take 5 in the Garden of the Gods" (5K & 5 Mile), the "Classic 10K" and the "Great Pumpkin Race." Times from the popular "Sailin Shoes" run are also included as part of the Grand Prix Series results.

A favorite run in Colorado Springs, more than 1,400 runners are expected to participate in this first 5K of the season. We strongly encourage runners to pre-register on-line at www.csgrandprix.com or at Runner's Roost to avoid long registration lines on Race Day!

The course is a flat 5K run that starts and ends at "Acacia Park" (located at Platte and North Tejon.) This loop course gives every runner a chance to stretch their legs and work out the winter cobwebs and prepare for the new season! Chip timing is used and limited to the first 1,500 runners to register! In the Irish tradition of St. Patrick's Day, there will be Irish music and plenty of refreshments at the finish line!

"The Leprechaun Fun Run" for children 12 & under will start at 11 am also at Acacia Park. The run is "As long as a Rainbow" -- about 4 blocks. Parents can run with their wee ones, but no baby joggers, wheels, or pets are allowed in any of the races!

The 25th Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade follows the races and steps off at Noon! The parade starts at St. Vrain and Tejon Street and goes south on Tejon to Vermijo. Visit www.csstpats.com  for more Parade information.

"Spirit of the Marathon is the first ever non-fiction feature film to capture the drama and essence of the famed 26.2 mile running event. Filmed on four continents, the movie brings together a diverse cast of amateur athletes and marathon luminaries.

"As six unique stories unfold, each runner prepares for and ultimately faces the challenge of the Chicago Marathon. More than a sports movie, Spirit of the Marathon is an inspirational journey of perseverance and personal triumph; a spectacle that will be embraced by runners and non-runners alike."

It is that time of year that flash lights are required on Tuesday night runs. This is a safety item that allows you to see the course and makes you visible to our worst enemy, cars.  Running headlamps can be picked up at Boulder Running Company, along with many other night and cold weather running equipment. Flashlights will be required at every run throughout the winter starting this Tuesday, October 23rd. Please come prepared.

With this hot weather, it would be nice to have a Jack Quinn's logo on
a jogging bra or tank top. Is that something that could be done?

Hi all,
I am in desperate need of volunteers for the American Discovery Trail
Marathon (http://www.adtmarathon.com/) that will be held Monday,
September 3 (Labor Day) in downtown Colorado Springs at America the
Beautiful Park.
Unfortunately, the best job (beer pourer) is already taken, but
fortunately some of the worst jobs (like water stop aides) are already
filled. Especially needed are course marshals for the day of the
race, and strong, able bodies to help with set-up at the park the
Saturday and Sunday before the race.
What will you get out of all of this? Good race karma for the
following year, the feeling of satisfaction from helping fellow
runners, a spiffy volunteer tshirt, and lunch if you are there on race
day!
Please contact me if you are at all interested in helping out! Thanks!

Hey Jack Quinn's Runners,

Sign up to volunteer for the Pikes Peak Ascent and Marathon. The race organizers are excited to have Jack Quinn's Runners volunteer again this year. The races are on Saturday August 18th and Sunday August 19th and your help would be greatly appreciated. Sign up to volunteer on the volunteer sheet  at http://www.pikespeakmarathon.org/volunteer.htm.  Make sure to list Jack Quinn's in your volunteer group name so you can paired with your fellow running buddies.

Also, wear your Jack Quinn's shirt and Irish flair while you volunteer. Check out photos of last years volunteers for Irish flair ideas.

See you up there!

Now that I have your attention...

It shall be known to all Jack Quinn's Runners there is a small increase in beer prices.  Pints that were $2 are now $2.50, due to unforeseen circumstances.

Fortunately, according to this article from About.com (http://coins.about.com/b/a/000123.htm) the average car should have about 84 cents lost in the seats.  That's more than enough to cover the 50 cent difference!  So search your car for lost change and join us at the run tonight at 6pm.

Cheers,

Lauren Johnson

Jack Quinn's Runners-

We just wanted to remind everyone that tomorrow, Tuesday June 12th is our 1st anniversary run, you don't want to miss this!  We will be meeting at the normal time and place (6pm at Jack Quinn's Pub) but the post run party will be held at City Auditorium on the southwest corner of Kiowa and Weber (a map will be available at the run tomorrow).  Here are some additional details about the post run party:

$2 Bristol Beers

We will be honoring our normal $2 Bristol Beers (Laughing Lab and Beehive).  There are a couple differences that should be noted.  First, the bar will be accepting CASH ONLY so leave your credit cards at home.  Second, the proceeds will be donated to the Trails and Open Space Coalition.  So bring a lot of cash and plan to put it toward a really good cause (and the Trails and Open Space Coalition).

Live Music

Live music will be performed by "The Tribe" from 7-9pm.   The Tribe also plays on most Wednesdays at Jack Quinn's so check them out in the future too.

Boulder Running Company Raffle

Boulder Running Company will be raffling off 10 pairs of running shoes compliments of Nike, Reebok, Adidas, New Balance, and Brooks in addition to some Timex running watches.  Raffle tickets can be purchased at the Boulder Running Company table in the auditorium after the run.  Again, all proceeds will be donated to the Trails and Open Space Coalition.  You must be present to win so be sure to stick around for the drawing!

Parking

The parking situation will be the same as usual: Good Luck!

Charity Event for Trails and Open Space

Finally, we wanted to restate that in addition to our 1st anniversary party this also serves as a CHARITY event to benefit the Trails and Open Space Coalition.  To learn more about the organization, check out their website here: http://www.trailsandopenspaces.org/.  Jack Quinn's Running Club has expended a lot of effort to keep membership completely free for the general public so we think it's time that we give back to a worthy cause that benefits us all.   In addition to beer and raffle proceeds, we also welcome and encourage cash donations of any amount, so please bring cash.

See you on Tuesday...

Ryan

Jack Quinn's Runners-

1st Anniversary Party, June 12

Mark your calendars!  Jack Quinn's Running Club will be celebrating our first anniversary at our run on Tuesday, June 12th.  Due to a higher than normal anticipated turnout, we have reserved Historic Colorado Springs City Auditorium to host the after party.  There will be free food, beer, music, and lots of celebrating!  In addition, 100% of the proceeds from beer will be donated to the Trails and Open Space Coalition, thanks to our sponsor Bristol Brewing Company.  This is the run that you don't want to miss this summer!  So show up thirsty and be prepared to have a good time!

The summer race season has begun!

When you participate in a race this summer let Jack Quinn's Running Club know.  There are two ways to make your participation known.  1) Post a race picture of yourself wearing a Jack Quinn's shirt on the "Traveling Quinn's Shirts" on www.jackquinnsrunners.com.  2) Wear your race shirt to Jack Quinn's Running Club nights.  Since races exist because of  volunteer's hard work, volunteers are encouraged to wear shirts and post pictures also!   Hope to see more and more Quinn's people out at races this summer and race/volunteer shirts on Tuesday nights.

Cheers,

Not exactly, but kinda.  The race directors have retained the list of "Jack Quinn's Runners" in the database from the 5K on St. Patty's Day.  So if you're doing other races in the the Grand Prix of Running series, you may see that you are indicated as a Jack Quinn's Runner.  Hope that makes sense.
