Big Apple Roll 2005 – Final pre-BAR Email & lots of answers - New   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #1351 of 1369 |
Hello Skaters,

Thank you for accepting our emails, we work hard to provide informative event
messages and are conscientious about inundation.

It is not too late to register or even sponsor the Big Apple Roll. Day-of
registrations jump up to $85 and will **only** be accepted based on
availability. Online registration ends Thursday night, register at
http://www.active.com/event_detail.cfm?event_id=1203733

The rest of the email will detail the event, what to expect for each activity
and what to do should you miss a group up. We have a lot of people coming to
NYC this year and unlike other weekend skates, we do **not** block off streets,
you will have a real taste for NYC skating and experience the city like we do
every day in all its glory and beauty. Although the heart of this weekend is a
skate tour through NYC, all of our events are geared to accommodate both skaters
and non-skaters so that we can include anyone who may be traveling or interested
in hanging with us.

New York is a big city and we want everyone to be safe. Do not hesitate to call
any of these people if you are lost, looking for the group or find yourself
disoriented in any way.

Emergency contact phone numbers during the BAR:
Michael: (347) 526-0110
John: (631) 523-1364
Ivan: (347) 262-7060
Edward: (718) 619-5746
Robert: (973) 768-4200

Host Hotel: Skyline Hotel
725 10th Ave @ W.49th St, New York, NY
Tel: (212) 586-3400 or (800) 433-1982
Closest Subway E & C train 50th Street Stop

For every skate:
Bring your shoes and some personal items in a bag with your name out to the
front of the hotel 15 minutes prior each skate so we can load them in the truck.
Your belongings will be safe and you will have access to it at the end of the
skate. Carry any personal items on hand you may want during a skate such as a
walkman or phone.

For the Saturday STRÜB skates, please include the beach gear you receive as our
gift and a hotel (or personal) towel to load in the truck prior the skate.

Complete weekend itinerary

Friday
------
3:00 – 5:45 -> Registration
(could be a little earlier if we are ready)
Location: Skyline Hotel

6:00 – 9:00 -> Happy Skate (Intermediate level)
Leader: Richard Kaufman

9:00 – 11:00 -> Dinner and Concert
Location: Frying Pan at Pier 63, http://www.fryingpan.com/
Only registered participants will be permitted in

Concert performed by: Sista Otis and the Wholly Rollers!,
http://www.sistaotis.com/ Featuring Sista Otis and Rev. K-Luv

Notes:
1. If you miss the skate, take a taxi to Pier 63, let the driver know it’s
next to Chelsea Piers if he has any questions about the location. A NYC taxi
can carry up to 4 people. The Taxi ride from the hotel will be around $6-$7.

2. If you have not registered yet, you will be able to check in on sight and
pick up your goodie bag Saturday morning.

3. You can also pay for Friday only at the door, but space is limited and may be
sold out by the time you get there.

11:00-2:00 Midnight skate (Advanced Level)
Leader: Eric Poullain

Comment: Eric runs our urban assault-style weekly Tuesday Night Skate. Last
year, this skate frazzled many of the BAR organizers themselves! It will
probably go into the early hours of the morning! It’s lots of fun … but …
Be Prepared!

Saturday
--------
8:00 – 10:00 -> Registration & goodie bag pick up for late comers

9:00 – 1:00 -> STRÜB skate to Coney Island (Intermediate Level)
Leader: Edward Leibnitz

Notes:

1. Edward promises sympathetic leadership for skaters who might find the
distance daunting, or may need extra TLC.

2. … and it ends at Coney Island with a $10 all you can ride Astroland Pass
from noon to 4:00pm. What could be better! The Astroland pass **must** be paid
for in advance at registration.

10:00 – 1:00 -> STRÜB skate to Coney Island (Advanced Level)
Leader: Greg Micello

Note: This is the same skate as the 9:00, but will have a much faster pace. If
you do not think you can keep pace, please be sure to make the 9:00 intermediate
skate.

1:00 - 5:00 Lunch, Astroland and free time at Coney Island.

Notes:
1. Lunch will be served to all registered participants

2. If you opted to purchase an Astroland wrist band, you will have unlimited
rides until 4:00. There are usually no lines on rides here.

3. If you miss or choose not to participate in either skate, You can get to
Coney Island by taking the "N" train from 49th Street and 7th Avenue in the
Downtown & Brooklyn direction until the very last stop (about an hour ride).
Call one of the numbers above when you arrive to find out where to meet up with
us.

5:00 – 7:00 Return from Coney Island
a. Coney Island Return Skate, leader: Jack Facchin
b. Coney Island Subway Return, leader: Michael DeStafano

This skate will be a return trip combining nice scenery and a fast way home!
There is no "Slow Group" back. For the rest, $2 buys a train ride home that is
fast, convenient, air conditioned and probably as much fun as skating another
15+ miles!

10:00 - ??? Lobby, http://www.lobbynyc.com/ ,

A hot lounge in NYC where it is common to find celebrities and other high
profile people. BAR registrants will enjoy an open bar from 10:00 to 11:00 and
free admission (normally $30 or more). This venue requires proper attire:
No flip-flops
No work boots
No jerseys
No hats
No athletic wear

Nice T-shirts are OK
Sandals are OK
Nice jeans are OK

In general, you just got to look good, you know what that means

Sunday
------
11:00 – 1:00 -> Fountain Skate (Intermediate Level)
Leader: Jack Facchin

1:00 – 3:30 -> Central Park Picnic followed by Dance Skate Circle
