Today I was playing around on my in-line hockey skates and I've been
trying to figure out how to make 2 foot spins last longer on in-line
hockey skates or skates without a PIC or toe-stop.
Here are some ideas:
First try to just skate on your back wheels while moving forward in a
straight line, then on one back wheel and one front wheel, and then
on just your front wheels. Yes, all of these moves sound scary, but
they are so much fun!
Try getting your balance next to a wall or rail first, and then just
go for it! You will have to concentrate hard as you shift your
weight, and say to yourself, as you attempt the move, "I'm not going
to get hurt, I'm not going to get hurt, I'm not going to get hurt!"
Keep your weight very centered; that is, not too far back or too far
forward.
Once you are used to balancing on wheels only, try to spin.
Try spinning with the left foot on the toe and the right foot on
the heel (if you spin to the left). Keep your weight right in the
middle, and keep saying to yourself, "I can do this, I can do this!"
To exit the spin: push out forward into a neat left outside/right
inside curve. Push your left arm and shoulder forward to stop
rotation on the exit. Don't forget to smile as you exit so that
someone who watches you will think you are a confident and marvelous
skater!
Have fun and Happy Spinning and Skating!
