My Lyman & Speer manuals say you can go up to 4.2 gr
of Bullseye with a 158 gr bullet. This should get you
to 880 fps. If your gun is rated for +P, this should
present no risk, but I would look out for split cases,
and back off if you find more than the very rare
instance.
I don't shoot 38 SPL in IDPA, but I remember Chris
talking about how hard it is to get 38 up to power
factor.
