From my work as a senior tournament official, and from my
discussions with fellow TKD competitors, coaches, and instructors
throughout the USA and the world, it is apparent that the level of
refereeing is very high. It is also apparent that we need more work
on tournament judging. (Everyone has seen the bouts where the four
cards are 3-2, 7-6, 7-8, and 29-27, yes?)

Accordingly, Master Wheatley has asked me to conduct a workshop on
judging before the IIC in Reno. We will hold the workshop on Thursday
afternoon or evening, July 30, 2009, exact time and venue to be
announced later.

Time permitting, we will also discuss patterns judging, but the main
focus will be on sparring (so everyone needs to being their gear, so
we'll have plenty of fighters to be "scored").

The format will be old-fashioned "stop-time" point sparring; the less
experienced judges will have an opportunity to discuss what they saw,
and then have the benefit of the experience of our most senior < BR style="font-family: Georgia;font-size: 13px;">officials to suggest whether they might need to (as we used to say
when we judged for the old PKA) "lighten up" a bit (the (3-2 score
above) or "tighten up" a bit (the 29-27 score above).

For those who are able to arrive early enough to participate, we
promise an educational experience--and for those fighters who just
don't get enough opportunity to "go waltzing Matilda" with fighters
outside their own locales, plenty of sparring time.

Further details will be announced when available; please feel free to
email me directly with any questions.

Hey all,

Just got my ticket to Reno,Nv. for the ITF International Instructors Course on July 30-Aug 1 with Master Wheatley, Master Nicholls and President Choi. I know many more masters will be there, but I will stop naming there to avoid leaving some of them out.

This is shaping up to be a super course with students and Instructors and Masters from across the globe flying in. so far the country list looks like US, Canada, UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Australia, Mexico, and South Africa.

When are people flying in? I will be there a day early with a group of us from the East Coast.

This summer is a grandslam of ITF events here on the east coast.

1) We just had Master Jue out teaching a seminar on all the different sparring ( 3 step, modal, semifree, etc.)
2) We have Master Wheatley out here in New Jersey at the end of May for another Great Seminar
3) We got the IIC in July in Reno Nevada (which is the one I am looking forward to the most)
4) We have President Choi back out here in Pennsylvania again in October for a Master Class

Lots going on hope to see old friends and continue making new ones.

Respectfully

Dear All

I just sent in my money for the IIC in Reno this July/August. I can't wait, rumor is that it will have a slightly different format then the IIC's before. There will be some high Dans testing as well. What better place to test then at an IIC?

Just wanted to see who else is going?

Cant wait to see everyone there and train.

Sirs / Madam,

I haven't seen any notice from the Phoenix group regarding an International
Instructor's
Course so I've uploaded a flyer for the event. There is also suppose to be
Nation
Championship hosted by Master Tompkins on July 12th. Its in conjunction with an
International Instructor's course with Master Nicholls. The Instructor's course
is normally 3
days, but they're packing it in on 2 days and the tournament on Saturday.
Thanks.

Yours In Taekwon-Do

Gordon Jue

Dear TKD family,

To all of you around the world! As we prepare to celebrate the 10th World
Taekwondo
Festival commencing July 1st 2008, we would like to show our sincere gratitude
for your
continued support for our festival over the last 10 years.

Together with your help we have made this festival the most successful and
prestigious
among so many Taekwondo events in the world today. What makes our festival
different is
that most who participate want to take part again and again, strengthening the
value
behind our belief that 'We are one through Taekwondo', regardless of
nationality,
language, culture or creed. We believe this value to be so important in the
global
education of the modern youth.

It is at this time of year, both in and out of Korea, that we come together. We
greet, we
compete, we talk, we shout, we hug and we cry, like old friends, like one
family. We follow
just one rule and we speak the same language, TAEKWONDO.

With the retirement of the well-respected president of the WTF, Mr. Un Yong Kim,
and the
passing of the equally respected founder of the ITF, General Choi Hong Hi, it
would seem
that now is an appropriate time to forge new friendships and show that
Taekwondo is one
sport. Although both disciplines have developed different styles, the original
root is the
same. There would seem no better time for the 60 million WTF and 40 million ITF
members to open their hearts and start communicating with each other.

It is with great honor and pride that we can be part of bringing members of
these two
esteemed federations to the same table for the first time in history. We hope
that it will be
remembered as a time of bonding in the world of Taekwondo. This effort on the
part of
the Organizing Committee and Chung Cheong University is self-rewarding in the
knowledge that we try something new as the front runners of the true Taekwondo
philosophy, a continuing feature of this unique festival. We hope this will
benefit
everyone, especially future generations.

It is for the above reasons that we invite ITF members to the 10th World
Taekwondo
Festival & Korea Classic Open 2008; to create a new era of Taekwondo that
belongs to the
world. WTF and ITF members all over the world!

With true Taekwondo spirit, let's unify our family to 100 million members and
stabilize our
unsettled
world.

Dr. Oscar Oh, Chairman
Organizing Committee of the World Taekwondo Festival

I was speaking with someone a while ago that was telling me that they
had ordered some blank medals that were made so that clear stickers
could be individulalized for different events and placed on the front.
This allowed them to have event specific medals without having extra
that couldn't be used for something else.

I can't remember who was telling me about them though. Can anyone give
me an idea where I might find these?

Thanks!!

On Saturday, February 2nd, Jue's Taekwon Do hosted a Black Belt
examination and seminar with Master Wheatley, 8th Dan, President of
the Unites States International Taekwon-Do Federation. All students
passed their examinations with six promotions to 1st Dan, one to 2nd
Dan, and one to 3rd Dan. After the examination, Master Wheately
conducted a seminar to a packed Dojang. There were over 60 students
of all ranks in attendance. Master Wheatley made special emphasis on
the importance of the "Do" in Taekwon-Do; that the art is not just
tae kwon, or kicking and punching. Time was also spent on sine wave
and the proper way to build power in Taekwon Do. Master Wheatley
stressed the need to execute the patterns with such power that the
students is nearly exhausted upon completion of the pattern. As
always, this was another memorable seminar put on by Master Wheatley

Maxwell AFB/Gunter AFB has a school but I'm not sure how far that is from where they will be located.  Please have them go direct with me and I'll help them out since AL is right next door to me.

Dear Instructors,

We will be hosting our 6th annual Top of the world TaeKwon-Do
Tournament on Feb. 23rd. If you or any of your students would like
to visit the great white north, we'd love to show you some Alaskan
hospitality. Please let me know if you are interested, and I will
send you a tournament packet.

Also, I have a military family stationed here at Fort Wainwright,
that will be transfered to Fort Rucker in Alabama this summer. Does
anyone know of any ITF clubs or could refer an instructor in that
area?

Thank you very much. Hope everyone had a great New Years!

Yours in TaeKwon-Do,

Jeff Hurben
