On January 9, 1768 Philip Astley staged the first modern circus in London. To commemorate that event, I'll be leaving my place 5:30 AM Friday for the Tigers and Acrobats loop: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=1476922
The 2009 Boston marathon is almost full and is projecting to close registration in the next 2-3 weeks. If planning on running make sure you register ASAP since they are running over 4,000 ahead of last year which closed on Feb 13.
Waivers will not be guaranteed entry after the close.
We're looking for a used road bike suitable for a teenager who's getting into "recreational" triathlons. My son is about 5'4" but won't seem to stop growing. Got a half decent bike in the garage someplace that might last him a couple of years until he needs a larger one? Maybe your teenager grew out of it? Maybe you bought one for your wife (or shorter husband?) hoping s/he'd ride with you but the thing is gathering more dust than Oklahoma? Time to reclaim that space in the garage - sell me that bike!!
Hi--Dan from Somerville Road runners here. Could you forward the details
below to your membership? Race is 1/11/09 at 11 AM at Khoury's, free entry
and breakfast, etc. Thanks.
Once again, Somerville Road Runners announces the something-or-other annual

SUNDAY, JANUARY 11, 2009 AT 11 AM
KHOURY’S STATE SPA, 118 BROADWAY, SOMERVILLE, MA
FREE entry
FREE breakfast
FREE fabulous prizes
This is our almost annual old-fashioned New England Winter Race, popsicle
stick timing and on-course volunteer direction. The ’07 race was
cancelled due to a horrific snowstorm (of course being that it is an SRR
event some people ran anyway) and December ’08 was just too busy a month
so here we go to ring in what we hope and trust will be a Fine ’09.
Trophies: Open, Masters, 1-2-3, U-19 and Veterans, 1-2, First Baby Jogger
Age and Gender Trivia Contest with many strange and irrelevant prizes.
Other Free Stuff t/b/d.
For details email Dan at bhuddarow@... or go to the club website
www.srr.org.
4.13 miles over the world famous Khoury’s/winter hill course—a perfect
mid-winter jaunt for the whole family!!

Leaving my place 7AM Saturday for this 11 mile jaunt: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=2465602 Includes: free tour of downtown Lynnfield, one repeat of Sagamore Hill, a saunter down North Reading's Main Street, and a survey of the New Year's Day Bonfire damage at IRP. How can you pass that up?
If you need to finish earlier or fewer miles, you could turn back at 4.5 for about 6.7 or turn back Park to Mt. Vernon and Flint for about 10. Or just jump in along the way!
Sorry I've been missing in action! I am alive haha! Finally all moved in and have everything up a running aka the Internet...worst time to move= the holiday season.
I apologize for my VERY VERY late thank you!
I really cannot thank you all enough for helping me out on that 20 mile snowy run!
I loved listening to all of your experiences and advice for my first marathon.
I can't wait to run w/ all of you again...I'll probably join in sometime either this Sunday or next week before the big day. Once again thanks so much for all of the encouragement and inspiration!
9 days until Disney...and yes Lori and John...i really am starting to obsess!! you were right!
It's not entirely a sure thing, but I'm gonna do every thing I can to drag my holiday-inflated sorry butt out of bed tomorrow morning and get a run in. I plan to leave my place, in shorts, at 6:45 AM for the HP 10: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=1526004
Should be dark and cold in the morning with just a sliver of a moon and Saturn high in the south. Let's run!
Leaving my place 5:30 AM for the usual route: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=2005 We'll have to see how passable the stream crossing is - bring snowshoes and/or skis and c'mon along!
It's cold and the footing looks lousy… Nothin' that can't be overcome! Let's run! We're a go!!!

Subject: Sunday! Sunday! Sunday! 20 miler!!!!
Jess Silva is making her marathon debut at Disney next month and Sunday will be her last long run prior to that. She's looking for company to help push her over the wall (and get her through the storm) so… We're gonna try to slip this in between squalls!
You could... A) run the 20, B) start at the beginning and turn back after 11 for a 12.5 mile loop, C) jump in at Ryer's (Park & Haverhill, ~8:40 AM, an orange flag on the crossing light on the South-West corner means we went by) for about an 8 mile loop, D) get creative and come up with some other place to jump in. Lots of options - one you'll like for sure!
There are stores for refills and thawing at 5.5, and 11 - and maybe a bottle of partially frozen Gatorade under the snow behind a rock just after 15.
If the weather is total crap or the roads are un-runnable, I'll post a cancellation by 6:15 AM Sunday (and head fro the YMCA) - so check your Email before heading out. Let us know if/where we should look for you! And c'mon along!

Assuming I'm not once again used as a human pin cushion at the blood donation site this evening… I'll be leaving my place at 5:30 AM, well before the impending snowmageddon, for an abbreviated run on the T&A (Titanic & Apollo) loop (http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=1476922) commemorating both the 1997 release of Titanic, the most financially successful movie in U.S. history grossing $1.8 billion worldwide, and the 1972 launch of Apollo 17, the last manned lunar flight. At about 3-1/4, I'll turn back on Haverhill for a total of 5.3. C'mon along for part or all!!!
My 2 college age sons - able bodied, polite, intelligent and strong (OK I am their mother ) are seeking odd job employment over this Christmas break - until January 11.
If you need any help with projects such as:
painting rooms - one son has worked with professional painter 3 summers in a row
cleaning basements
moving stuff
building things- inside or out.
help with computer type projects- even at your work place- such as database clean up, marketing projects.
You can reach them via my email carbailey@... and then they can follow up with you and give you all their contact info.
Thanks - remember projects that you say you will do and never get done or ones you cannot do alone- this is the time to get them done.

In anticipation of potential holiday party impact and limited running capabilities early Sunday morning… Gonna go visit Harold on SATURDAY morning this weekend.
Turn-back options include making a left on Marblehead at about 3.7 and returning to the start via Haverhill for just under 8 miles or turning left down Haverhill just after 7 for about 11 - or jump in at 3.7 for the HP 10k loop - or jump in someplace else!!
No support on this loop. Strap on the Gatorade and c'mon along!
Thursday - Rain with a chance of sleet. Near steady temperature in the mid 30s. Northeast winds 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph. Chance of precipitation near 100 percent.
So let's run! Leaving my place 5:30 Thursday morning. Heading toward the T&A loop (http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=1476922) but will turn it back early if the weather is total crap.

With snow in the forecast for Sunday afternoon, and on the assumption the path will NOT be plowed this winter, this weekend could be your last chance to do some 'sploring of the new rail/bike trail being built through Peabody: http://www.itemlive.com/articles/2008/10/30/news/news08.txt There's some risk that parts of the trail remain unpaved. Looking down the trail from road crossings, I think we're good but we won't know for sure until we try!
If ten is a little far, you could park near the Messiah Lutheran Church in Lynnfield and cut the distance to 8, or near the four way stop at Lowell and Main cut it to 6.
There is a store at about the halfway point where you could purchase refills if required.
Let us know if we should look for you! Strap on the Gatorade and c'mon along!
On December 5, 1933 prohibition in the United States ended as Utah became the 36th U.S. state to ratify the Twenty-first Amendment to the United States Constitution, thus establishing the required 75% of states needed to enact the amendment (this overturned the 18th Amendment which had outlawed alcohol in the United States).
Not to be confused with The Shining's "Redrum", to commemorate the 1954 censure of Joseph McCarthy for "conduct that tends to bring the Senate into dishonor and disrepute", I'll be leaving my place at 5:30 AM tomorrow morning for the usual loop: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=2005 Grab your hammer and sickle and c'mon along!!
