Sean,
Not that I want to start a huge list discussion or rain on your parade but
I wanted to give a perspective from a rider use to being passed (insert
all jokes here).
In a race I normally can pick up on the Experts early enough to start
preparing to let them pass without hindering them(at least I try). This
usually happens well before they've said anything to me. The point is if I
(or another slower class rider) was wearing headphones I wouldn't be able
to have the same amount of time to prepare to let them pass. My goal when
I hear another rider approaching (unless it's Taylor) is to let them pass
without slowing their mojo or kiling mine.
MB
I can't be at the meeting since I'm up in Minnesota at
school. So here goes:
Allowing headphones (earbuds) in IORCA Races.
Headphones should be allowed as grassroots mountain
bike racing is based on the enjoyment of the sport.
Many people choose to enjoy riding with headphones.
IORCA could require that a rider only have a headphone
(earbud) in one ear. They could also encourage that
the volume be turned down enough to hear other riders
wanting to pass. IF any rider has trouble passing a
headphoned rider, the passing rider could submit a
protest against the headphoned rider. The headphoned
rider could then be disqualified from the race at the
discretion of the promoter/official. IORCA could
leave this rule as a warning for using headphones at
your own risk.
Start Times.
I also support Mr. Pottorffâ??s request of setting a
mandatory start time of 10:30am for IMBCS
Cross-Country races. Of course, exceptions would be
made for stage races.
Respectfully Submitted,
