Re: SF 2032 and 2033 -- faster speed limits on 4 lanes??   Message List

Robert, You've always got the edge!

I've posted the SF 2033 info and the newly named SF 2032...

I had contact with Putney a few days before the Transportation hearing.. He
was indeed pissed, but did respond in a timely manner. He appears to be
vindictive and from what I see, he carries some pretty good 'weight" on the
senate floor.

From all the correspondence going around, I feel like we cyclists may be
losing some ground. Sure, amendments have been proposed and some adopted
which may clog the bill up for a bit.

This was a note I received back from Jeff Lamberti after I wrote him asking
for his help to defeat the bill.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------
"Thank you for the note. I appreciate your input, as well as the response
from Sen. Putney. To be honest, I have not made up my mind on this. I have
mixed emotions. It does seem that the general rule should be for people to
use a trail when available. At the same time, I do understand some of your
points regarding weather and so forth. I will continue to think about this
prior to the time the bill comes up for debate."

Jeff Lamberti
President of the Senate

Not great news from Lamberti. We need to work on him. Is there a formed
list of senators/legislators on our side other than McCoy, Warnstadt and Joe
Bolkcom? There are a couple more names, but their names escape me right
now. Putney had the power on the Transportation committee and unfortunately
it was a large generation (age) gap between those in opposition of the bill
and those in favor. If those age ratios pan out on the senate floor, chances
are slim for a defeat.

There have been some awesome letters written with some good response back,
but none with the "punch" needed to defeat this growing monster. Sen Putney
is going to be a tough one!

I think many cyclists who usually don't participate HAVE sent letters, email
etc. which is great, but what more can we do to ban together?

Thanks for using BikeIowa!!

according to my legislative e-mail alerts: the Bill is titled Senate
File 2032...

have you seen Senate File 2003 for INCREASING the speed limit on 4 lane
highways???
65 to 70 miles per hour. What are they trying to pull! Now it is all
making sense... faster commutes
