Mike Murphy will be awarded the Award of Distinction from the American Water Ski Educational Foundation

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to mention the new Cinch release I got for Christmas this year. Thanks to Lonnie, he’s always improving things. This time the release has an extra loop on it to hold your coiled up rope securely. He’s got a picture of it on the website: http://www.cinchmax.com/

So it made me think that if it had a 2^nd loop on it, that you could use that to hang the whole thing on the side of your tower.

I�m currently working with the American Water Ski Educational Foundation (AWSEF) Hall of Fame and Museum to place a hydrofoil display case in their collection. Our hydrofoil display case would be part of their vast collection which includes memorabilia from the 1920's to the present; water skis, ropes, handles, wetsuits, boat and motors, trophies, books, vintage and modern day photographs, perpetual trophies, etc.

The hydrofoil display case would represent our sport discipline with the following possible items. All items would be on loan to AWSEF and can be returned to the owner (if desired).

Wings from various foils (curved, flat, etc.)

The American Water Ski Educational Foundation (AWSEF) will award Mike Murphy the Award of Distinction in April, 2009. The AWSEF runs the Hall of Fame in Polk City, FL. This is a huge honor -- past award winners include Tommy Bartlett and Parker Overton.

You are welcome to attend the festivities the weekend of April 17 to 18, 2009. The Hall of Fame weekend is one week before the Florida Flyin. More information will be posted later as it becomes available, but I just heard via phone today.

AWSEF owns the building that houses the Hall Of Fame (visible from I-4) and the headquarters for USA Water Ski. Mike's picture is on the wall as you exit the building.

A huge thanks goes to John Clemmons for all the work he did to make this happen. Phil Dixon also put significant work on this. And, of course, Tony Klarich (Mike's nephew) put together an amazing DVD chronicling Mike's career, which was undoubtedly a huge factor in making this happen.

On Friday evening the local water-ski shop (Active water Sports) held it annual holiday sale get together. A group of us who foil attended and had a good time. Kevin Chong and Dave Cruthers (Sky Ski Dave) were headed home afterwards and were involved in a fairly serious traffic accident. They were North bound on the the freeway when a South bound pickup was rear ended and sent spinning into the North bound lanes right in front of Kevin and Dave. They T-boned the other pickup at 65 MPH. Dave is bruised and sore but walked away. Kevin (Who was driving) has a broken foot requiring surgery but will be OK. Everyone in the other pickup was taken to the hospital but will be OK.
Many of you who have attended the NW Flyin have met both Kevin and Dave. I'm sure everyone who has met Kevin will remember him, he runs the ichong.com web site and motivates everyone to be their best.
