Okay, it's been kinda quite so I thought I would pose this question now.  I was looking at videos from last years USHA video competition and have a question about scoring.

Of the 4 Amateur Women videos only 2 did inverts, one of which did them on BOTH sides and they scored last.  How come?

I do not want to take anything away from any of the 4 who submitted videos (all did a great job) but, each did some surface tricks (rope tricks, board / seat grabs, etc.) and the one who was last did the most inverts of all plus numerous surface tricks.

One of the reasons I ask this is that Lisa was wanting to be more competitive this year and I am trying to understand the scoring system a little better.  Seeing this type of results would be discouraging to any rider to even submit a video in the future - myself included.

For those of you who have not seen the videos, here is a link: http://www.hydrofoil.org/Awards2007.html

I am somewhat familiar with the Captain's Seat. we do not plan
to do a seat untill we have the t-bar and wings dialed in for both
beginer-intermediate & intermediate-advanced riders. I wish we could
give an exact time frame as to when our wings and t-bar will be
finished but may is our goal, it takes time to get rider feedback and
then incorperate that feedback into our product. We will be sending
out another front wing for more testing next week. Also I do not wish

Are you familiar with the Captian's Seat that was made a few years ago
by a guy in FL? I'm thinking there is a market for the seat to compete
with the EVO in the less than $500 price range. I am trying to hunt
down the CAD drawings for it. The guy seems to have dropped out of

lingo) or how would one go about getting set up to machine the parts?

Thanks,

For everyone knocking being a professional water skier I resemble that remark. If you all were 20 and could get paid a 120 bucks a day
and all you had to do was a back roll would you do it? Now if you said no then I will officially call you a moron to your face.  If you want
to know how it was  let me know I will tell ya all about it. It's the best experience you will ever have. Plus once you ski every day for a living
then wanna bet that skier will probably be better then most of you knocking it that is if they aren't already.

Good news!  Sea World of Orlando is hiring a full time employee through World Entertainment for this summer (May 5-Sept.1). World Entertainment also runs the Pro Wakeboard tour. My contact, whom I have worked for in the past is Danny Stuart. Great guy. He wanted me to forward this to anyone interested. The pay will vary, depending on the skills you have, but He said it will be around $120 or so per day. Other skiing not needed, but is a help. The hydrofoil is a main part of their show.

You can contact him by phone: 407-310-7690
I don't know if the email is current, but he just called me on the above #.

I would say minimum talent would be a few different back rolls, and front flips consistant.

Good luck, and hopfully someone on the list can do this!

Half the price. I wonder what the  longevity of that pricing will be. It costs a ton to buy product, it  takes too long to tune a foil, you have to test ride them to be sure they  are spot on, and even it they are, they may ride differently than the way  they rode during testing, so you may have to send out a new one, then if  that doesn't work you have a refund issue, and then there is the warranty  issues, the ROI, or return on investment. Sounds like you are going to do  them for cost. How long is that going to last? I wasn't going to say  anything, but I know from making my foil what the costs are, and if you can  make the foil ride as good as a G-38 or LE-38 for half, well you are the  man. More like miricle worker!

I wish you well.

I am a sole proprieter, but have one other person involved.  We are trying to build a product line that will satisfy the needs of all levels of riders, whith pricing that is appriciably less than what other products are going for now, and quality and features comparable to current high end products.

I would like to add that we are very excited to have the oppertunity to use riders feedback to build the products that others want at a price they will be happy about.

I am a machinist/designer/programer, I have been Sky Ski's machinist since they moved to redding about 4 years ago. After being fired from there about a year ago I purchased my own cnc machine center in hopes of being able to do something for hydrofoiling that has not been done "make a hydrofoil compareble to the "LE" at half the price".  I have the complete hydrofoil assembly designed and after calculating all my cost I will be able to make a complete foil assembly for half the price.  I do not want pictures of our products untill some realworld testing is done and I really don't care to give my ideas away, so i want to make sure that I have made enough of certain things so that they will be known to be mine so as not to have to worry about patent issues ( i do not want to invest in patents{in my opinion this has really s lowed the progresion of the sport, that money should be spent on improving or promoting the sport).  patents are great for the patent holder not so good for the consumer.  This is not to imply that the big name company's are overly priced I think they charge a fair price for there products.  It is the way a company is run and that products are designed and manufactured that will bring the cost of hydrofoiling down. yes our website is still in the works, personally i like really simple things and hope to keep our website that way obviously we need to put products on our site but my oppinion on how well something rides does not mean squat to hydrofoilers, so I am waiting for feedback from our front wing before putting pictures and words on our site. here are some early specs for ya though

I am definitely with Geno here.  I once thought the same – thought these could be done much cheaper.  I can promise you one thing, even owning a CNC machine, no one is getting rich on these toys – even at current pricing.   Geno is exactly correct – there is soooooo much that has to be done behind the scenes that either you donate your time, or you have to raise prices to help offset your time.  I can’t begin to tell you how much time I’ve spent behind a computer, out in the garage behind a polisher, on the water swapping parts out, etc.  Making the parts isn’t bad – polishing them is NO fun – tuning them really sucks.  At some point you get to the point where you have a good feeling about your tuning abilities – but with t-bars, life get’s very interesting as we proved this weekend.  If it isn’t ridden, there is no promising that it’s even going to ride, let alone ride well.   I don’t know how anyone could tune by “feel” on t-bars.  The tiniest change  on the leading edge makes an incredible difference with the ride – especially in cold water.

Dean - I did get a chance to see your wing this weekend – looks cool.  Unfortunately we didn’t have time to play on anything except the xcal.   Maybe I’ll get a chance to ride it at some point if I ever quite screwing around with my own creations.

Hopefully both Geno and I are wrong and you’ll be able to knock this stuff out cheaply.  But I can’t begin to tell you how much I’ve got invested in this silly stuff – I don’t know that I’ll ever come out ahead.  But at least it allows me to keep producing ideas and refining them until they work.  It’s all about the sport anyways.  Some day we’ll look back at all of this and be glad we devoted this much of our lives to advancing the sport.  At least I hope that’s the case!  :)

Good luck!

Bryan

I am not at all mad about being fired (at first I was not happy about it, I learned a long time ago to forgive and to move on),  I did however love my job. I should have just said that I am no longer with sky ski (I am a better machinist than a writer).
Our test riders are anyone that we can get to ride our equipment or whoever volenteers.  Thanks again to all those that have shown interest, I hope to give all those that are willing a chance to ride our equipment and use their input to refine our products, but please keep in mind that we are trying to have our foil assembly ready for sale by this summer.

Who are the test riders??  Do you have any partners in this venture?? Are you incorporated or a sole proprietor??

Subject: [Hydrofoil] Re: Hydrofoil rack for Malibu Illusion tower

It is the way a company is run and that products are designed and manufactured that will bring the cost of hydrofoiling down. yes our website is still in the works, personally i like really simple things and hope to keep our website that way obviously we need to put products on our site but my oppinion on how well something rides does not mean squat to hydrofoilers, so I am waiting for feedback from our front wing before putting pictures and words on our site. here are some early specs for ya though

same size wing as sky ski "bat wing" or "max air" wing
shape is the result of much fea and flow analasys
material is 7075-T6 aluminum
5/16 thick
cost less than $400 full retail
