Well Dog you haven’t even left yet and you are already stirring the pot. Todd, you still have time to change your route.

Sandy told me that mature nanny keeps saying where’s my McDaddy? I know I am going to keep Gracie locked up when you get here.

To all the other nice folks on this list It’s April see ya soon.

That will probably make it feel better, but I’ve had two repetitive soreness problems from foiling… One was upper back muscles near the shoulder blades, and the other is the tennis elbow type of problem.  Resting and the electrode stuff that Amy has made the soreness feel better and definitely helpful, but you go back out and hurt it all over again.  The way I got rid of repetitive soreness both times was to hit the weights and work the crap out of it…at least 2 or 3 times a week.  Fixed me.

Now I just need to figure out how to keep a shoulder in the socket.  I guess I have to grow stronger again.

Beg to differ with regards to just working out to fix the tendonitis –

First you have to isolate exactly what areas are affected, therapy and rest to heal and recover. Then rehab slowly, every time you move your hand – forearm – fingers you are working those tendons. A good holistic treatment is direct ice. Fill a Styrofoam cup with water – freeze then tear the bottom off and rub directly on affected tendon area. 15-20-min, Recommended 4x-aday. Rest the arm often. Each time you foil or abuse the tendons go back to icing. Pressure wraps – a strap just below the elbow can help reduce stress during use.

Been there……

Below is the complete list of prizes for anyone who joins or renews their membership in USHA by March 31st. Thanks to these generous sponsors!! Be sure to visit their web sites and support the people who are supporting the sport.

Remember, every member has a chance to win (except USHA board members), so sign up as head of household and include your whole family – either as active members if they will attend a flyin, or as free supporting members. A family of four can have four chances to win!

To renew, visit http://joinusawaterski.org and be sure to select Hydrofoil as your sport discipline.

Why renew, besides the chance at some great prizes?

  • Nine exciting issues of The Water Skier (the sooner you join, the more issues you get). This one-of-a-kind magazine keeps you up-to-date on a variety of water sports, with increased coverage of hydrofoiling in 2005.
  • Discounts on a wide variety of travel and water sports equipment – including 10% off soft goods from Sky Ski and Air Chair
  • Preferred pricing on Global Marine Boat Insurance (see www.insuremyskiboat.com )
  • $10,000 of secondary personal injury insurance when attending a flyin
  • Support your sport – the more people who join, the more money USHA has to help flyins and grow the sport. Ultimately, that means you’ll have more people to ride with.
  • Of course, you’ll need to be a member to participate in any USHA flyins, so why not renew now?

For further information, don’t hesitate to contact Brad Scott at bradx@....

Hurry – Offer limited to first 350 renewals only!
Deadline is March 31, 2005

David, I had pain in my elbow every time I rode until someone suggested
putting a section of regular ski rope (3'or 4' on my non-stretch rope. Works
for me with no pain at all any more.

I wanted to try and hook up with some other hydrofoilers around the area and see if we could plan some times to get out on the water together.  I haven't seen too many of us around the area and just wanted to get a group together that was interested in working on tricks and such.

thanks

<<1. Do you switch which hand is on top depending on which direction you are cutting?>>

Yes...in general, cut right, switch right hand.  Cut left, switch left hand.

<<2. If you switched from an overhand to a baseball grip, why? and what problems did you have re-learning your tricks with the grip switch?>>

When I used to have to hang onto 38 pounds through the air on a loaded up roll, it was easier to keep the handle in.  The arm that was controlling most of the line tension is palm up using more of the bicep.  If you let the handle out on loaded up tricks, it can cause some nasty crashes.

No problems relearning...switching the grip is no big deal, it's mainly your mind that trips you up.

<<3. Has anyone had elbow tendonitis problems that were improved by switching the grip?>>

You can workout to get rid of this.  Getting stronger seems to cure the problem.

I'm with David on this.  Been doin' this skiing stuff for longer than I care to mention and have never heard of the 'hammer grip'.  'palms down' is what I've always heard it called.
I use the baseball grip to get out of the water and everything else (which ain't much), I do with the 'palms down' grip.  For rolls, it would be more correct to use the 'baseball grip' and change from side to side.  Left hand up going right to left and vice versa, but whose gonna think to do that.  Muscle memory, right Bryan.  When I was young, it was like 'instant messenger', now it's more like 'morse code'.
Just ride hard and put yourself up wet!

I was just about to post a note on this topic.  I've used basball grip
for slalom skiing always, but very quickly went to palms down (what's
a 'hammer grip' anyway?) for kneeboard, wakeboard, and hydrofoiling
when I started that.  It like the symmetry of the palms down grip for
doing things that can happen from either side of the boat.

So until recently I would have said palms down for myself with no
question.  The problem is that starting last summer I began to get
what I think must be a repetative stress injury in my left elbow. I am
assuming this has come from stress caused by the loading of the line
when I jump, particularly wake jumps when cutting from the left to the
right.

I'm guessing from my investigation on the internet that I have
tendonitis.  The syndrome seems to be 'golfers elbow'.  The pain is in
the attachments going from the forarm to the lower side of the elbow.
If it was in the upper side of the elbow it would be the famous tennis
elbow.  I thought time off over the winter would allow it to heal, but
even though I thinks it's improved some, it's still a problem.

Anyway,  I haven't started testing it yet but I'm thinking that for
heavily loaded line stress a more ergonomic position is the baseball
grip.  My questions about this would be for those using a baseball
grip:

1. Do you switch which hand is on top depending on which direction you
are cutting?

2. If you switched from an overhand to a baseball grip, why? and what
problems did you have re-learning your tricks with the grip switch?

3. Has anyone had elbow tendonitis problems that were improved by
switching the grip?

Thanks.

I guess I can't vote in the poll since I don't know my answer right
now.

this spring. I'm in St. Louis and ski/ wakeboard on the Mississippi
river. My boat is a Malibu Sunsetter LX with Monster tower. I'm
interested in purchasing an entry level Sky ski/ Air chair. Any info.
that would help get me started would be appreciated. Thanks, Jim

I agree whole heartedly.  Remember this, they don't have to give any thing, they do because of the love of the sport and they want to promote it.  Be grateful and gracious about it, not petty.  That is my 2 cents.

Let's ride and promote together for the benefit of the sport and not
keep score of such pettiness.

I wanted to try and hook up with some other hydrofoilers around the area and see if we could plan some times to get out on the water together.  I haven't seen too many of us around the area and just wanted to get a group together that was interested in working on tricks and such.

thanks

Philthy is correct. at least (2) campgrounds near the fly-in, BUT, no
tent camping at either... dunno if thats what you needed, but I found
out the hard way a couple years ago. Closest tent sites are in
Sebring, probably Highlands Hammock State Park (very nice!) its about
15 minutes or so north and also where the biggest selection of
resteraunts are...

I can't wait!!!!

Hi Brian,

The article in The Water Skier was about foiling and USHA's inclusion as a
full sport discipline. The USA Water Ski staff wrote the article and chose
the photos. I'm not sure why you say it was all about Sky Ski. While this
time, there were not any photos of an Air Chair, in 2004, almost all the
photos (and all the large photos) were of Geno on his Air Chair.

I'd love to see more Air Chair riders join USHA and come to the flyins.
Here's what I show for remaining 2005 flyins:

6th Annual Florida Fly In April 7th to 10th 2005
1st Annual Georgia Mountain May 12th to 15th 2005
3rd Annual Canadian Fly-In July 22nd to 24th 2005
6th Annual Tenn. Fly In June 23rd to 27th 2005
2nd Annual Pacific NW Fly In (WA.) Aug. 5th to 7th 2005
1st Annual Illinois Fly-In August 19th to 21st
3rd Annual Idaho Fly-in Aug. 27th to 29th 2005
5th Annual Great Lakes Fly-In Sept. 9th to 11th 2005
7th Annual Texas Fly In Sept. 15th to 19th 2005
3rd Annual False River Fly In (LA) Oct. 21st to 23rd 2005
1st Annual Lake Shasta Fly-In (CA) Dates to be announced
Air Chair Regatta Dates to be announced

All US based flyins will be sanctioned USHA events this year! So I encourage
everyone join USHA and come to a flyin.

Does anyone know if camping is allowed at Lakeshore for the fly in? Thanks!

FYI, Air Chair was our largest non-cash sponsor at the NW-Flyin for 2004.

I don't think it's about how much you give that shows your level of support, it's more that you are giving to the sport that counts period.

Think about it... this whole donation thing was to convince you (and me) to join USHA.

If anything, we should be disappointed with ourselves for requiring a bribe (obviously, not all of you that joined needed this incentive).

In any case... who are we to judge the level of promotion by the amount of free donations someone gives to the sport?

Enjoy the foiling, that's why we're all here... and if free stuff comes along, rejoice in it and hope you are the lucky recipient.

I always say, "if it's free....it's for me".

Things that make you go Hmmm.....

Air Chair offers: One of two HitchHideTM hitch and ball covers ($25ea)

SkySki offers: Sky Ski Hydroflite Hydrofoil

Bambi and Geno stepped up with more than Air Chair. (Thanks guys)

To me it's obvious who care more about USHA and promoting the sport.

For sale.  The original billet sky ski bar, billet front blade and a billet flat rear wing from the LEx.  This is one of the original billet bars that started the whole thing.  It rides phenomenal.  The price includes the black cover seen in the pictures.  $1,200 plus shipping.
