Lonnie,

Next time I try to help you, I think twice. “Blake, thanks for the help.  I had completely forgotten that most inverts were spins. I'll work on that. ” That was really funny. How old are you again?  You missed the point. Sell your product – That’s fine.

My point was where the swivel was located. It may give you issues where it is located on that particular item. I am not trying to stop Cinch from selling them. My intentions are true, that I was trying to help. I’m looking to better the sport. Man alive!!

Go to the forum, http://www.foilforum.com/forums/showthread.php?2909-Trick-release-ideas&p=29699#post29699 and comment there. The swivel location is what my whole point was, BUT you totally missed that.

Thanks!

- Blake

Blake, thanks for the help.  I had completely forgotten that most inverts were spins.  I'll work on that.  Incidentally, the swivel you helped us all find is a cast swivel and I wouldn't go there.  The swivel I plan on using is stainless, drop forged with the release pin made into it.  About $50 ea. retail.  4500# breaking strength.  Anyway, thanks again for the advice.

Lonnie,

It’s a great idea. In fact I tried this same release about a year ago. Bought the part online about $15 plus shipping. http://www.reliancemarine.com/Product/6439/Snap-Shackle-with-Swivel-Eye-70mm/View.aspx

As I said it is a great idea, but does not work. The malfunction comes from the fact that most inverts are spins in the air. That causes the swivel to do its part and swivel, hence twisting the release rope in the rope of the skier. That is what will make this release not work. All that twisting, will twist the release part and the pull string up with it. Making the release inoperable to release when needed. It is like the swivel needs to be after the release, then that would stop the release cord from twisting with demands of the rope. Just wanted to let you know before you put something like this into production.

I'm working on a new CINCH Release for 2010. Not in production yet, but looks very good at this point. I've had several inquiries about building this, so here it is. It still Releases automatically, but now you can release it manually. Check it out and let me know what you think.

The US Hydrofoil Association (USHA) will hold our annual elections in late November or early December. This will be our seventh election, where 5 of the 10 director positions will be filled for a two year term. The other five directors will continue in office until their terms expire at the end of 2010, at which time they may or may not choose to run again. As per our bylaws, the general membership votes for the directors, and once elected, the directors vote for which directors will be the officers (President, VP, Secretary, Treasurer).

I'm posting this now for two reasons. First, I want everyone to be aware of the process. If there are contested positions, we'll be running the election via postal mail to members 18 years old or older. Keep in mind that only current USHA members will be allowed to vote. So voters' names will be checked against the USHA / USA Waterski membership roster.

Second, we are inviting any member who chooses to be nominated to send their request to me (you can nominate yourself). Please include a short statement about what you would like to accomplish if elected as a board member (e.g., write media articles, organize local tournaments, organize clinics, expand membership, etc.). We also welcome people to help with these areas without being on the board -- in particular we need more people to organize local tournaments and flyins.

Guidelines for the board positions are below:

Who has worked to promote the sport (flyins, competitions, etc.) and wants to do more?

Who plays well with others?

Who has knowledge of the sport (flyins and competitions included)?

Who can easily conduct business via email?

Has the candidate been a continuous member of USHA since at least January 2008?

For reference, the directors who are staying on the board are:

Bryan Schumacher

Cliff Woodman

Lonnie Marchand

Mj Pohl

Brad Scott

Seeking re-election:

Alison Goin

If you are interested in being nominated for a director position, or you know someone else who is interested in being nominated, please email me by November 11th.

Thanks,

Brad Scott USHA President

Ah yes, let's not forget Bill Von Zabern. He has set the mark for endurance watersports, and specifically hydrofoil. I also forgot to thank Bay Area - Jim and chuck - for hooking me up with an awesome deal and and cypress water sports (Billy rurucha sp?) for maintaining and keeping my boat running when I break it (look out for the dock with that sky ski in the rack... Ouch!)

And Kevin, for keeping us all on our toes.

More to come...

" Thanks everyone for your interest and support. I'm still pretty sore right now and in places that I never thought were possible. No permanent injuries at least! In all it was worth it. I had an awesome crew that came together to make this attempt possible and successful. Thanks to Al Van, Darren, Chef Anton, Karen, Kevin Thayer, Mike Davis and Mike Murphy. I'm glad that I was able to hang on for them for all the hours that were invested into this. True, listening to Murphy's jokes for 6 1/2 hours is a feat in itself. Mercifully, I was at the end of the line where I couldn't hear them.
To answer a few questions that I saw come up... I was on a 34" Lex Sky Ski with a shock tower equipped with Cinch Max belt and foot stays. Flips were basic and switch wake rolls so that I wouldn't get dizzy and twist up the rope. Yes, I can do lots of other stuff on a hydrofoil, these inverts are just the fastest, most consistent rolls that I know how to do that take the least amount of effort to perform. I'm very sore right now, but not in the places that you would think. My quads feel like I just ran a marathon... I don't know why that is. My back and arms feel fine. I have areas on my feet, stomach and butt where the skin rubbed off...
Training for this has been a months-long adventure, I trained like a triathlete but with a few waterski-specific exercises thrown in. I'm glad it's over so that I can tone it down and move onto something else.
Lastly, I would like to thank Geno for giving us all something to shoot for... I'll never be able to ski like that guy, but if I can beat him at something, you know that I'm going to have to go for it. He's an awesome guy and a huge inspiration.
Thanks again,
Bill von Zabern

Hope you all had a Great Weekend! Kinda cool for this part of the country, but I
love it.
My wife and I will be heading out for our 2 Week Road Trip on Wednesday, Oct 21
and I'll be back in the office on Monday, November 2.
We will be headed up the East Coast this year.
All orders are current and if I need to ship any CINCH or Sky Ski Products, I'll
have to do it today and Tuesday.
I can be reached via email and by phone while on the road. If you wish to place
an order or need info, don't hesitate to call.

Just posting to let anyone interested know that 2 weeks from today, I will be setting out to break the record for the most flips in one hour on my 38th birthday, October 20th. I have both The Water Skier and the Water Ski Mags coming out, as well as a few other local publications to document everything. Brad Scott has volunteered to be my official qualifier to make this an official Guinness world record if I am successful. I am looking forward to the event here on the Chain of lakes, and will be filming it with 3 different cameras so that I can put a short DVD together, and probably post it to you tube and other medias. If anyone is interested in supporting this event, I am looking to promote 2 organizations during the filming and photos. Gold and Silver sponsorships, $500/$250. You should get your money's worth, given the media that will be involved.

Rather than make tons of calls to people who may or may not have any ad money this year, I figured I would just post something here. These sponsorships will go towards the expenses that are associated with the production of this attempt.

BTW, if I am unsuccessful, a complete refund will be made on the sponsorship money.

Thanks for your attention.
