Re: [Hydrofoil] How did you know your addicted?

I became addicted to watersports at an age of 12 years.  I started waterskiing behind my dad's 14-foot Lone Star aluminum boat with a 25-HP outboard in the early 60's.

My first boat was a 16 foot 1969 Power Cat (catamaran hull) with a 125-HP Merc outboard - it was a sweet little boat that would literally fly!  At full throttle, going around 55 mph, only one foot of the boat was touching the water - you could see daylight underneath it...

By the mid-80's, once I reached a weight over 200 pounds, I had lost the zeal for boating and water sports...It was just too hard on my arms and shoulders, having already damaged both rotator cuffs and having numerous painful episodes of "tennis elbow" from popping the rope too hard, and I just didn't enjoy driving while everyone else was riding & having fun, so I just quit.

On impulse on day in 1996, I went window-shopping at Sail & Ski in Austin.  I noticed they had an Air Chair on display - I was addicted before I ever rode it!  And, to boot, they offered to let me spend a half-day on Lake Austin with Murphy (for $50.00) to learn how to ride it.

Without even taking a test ride, I immediately knew it was the future of water sports for me...that day, without a second though, I bought my 2nd boat, a SeaRay 175 Bowrider, along with the Air Chair.

I became even more addicted to foiling last August while watching the movie "Step Into Liquid" - within 15 minutes of seeing Laird Hamilton riding big waves on a foilboard I was searching on the internet and bought my first Rush Foilboard.  During September and October last year my son and I rode for something like 26 days in a row, until my son broke the first Rush board.

A big part of the fun of foiling is watching people watch us!  They sometimes come to a stop, staring, or turn around and follow us down the lake...and they all yell "Do a flip"...

Subject: [Hydrofoil] How did you know your addicted?

We all know it's addicting. So when did you figure it out? Was it when
you first flew the foil? Landed your first trick? Your first invert?
When you started building websites? Maybe when you started putting
stickers on your truck & boat?

Or maybe.......    http://airjunky.com/temp/104.jpg
