A better way of saying it might be the single shock forks were "different". they changed them to supposedly match the performance of the new single shock...

On my old 85 510, I swapped out some forks from an KTM 125, upside down WP forks with the triple clamp. They worked great....

that's right, you wanted a disc brake setup. cheap enough. swap the front ends, put a piston in the 86 and let your friends ride it when they come into town....
