Peter,

I agree Fast Black satin is too dull unless you keep it sprayed with WD 40. Does anyone know what John LaFevre uses?

For cases I've been very satisfied with Auto stores rattle can engine paint for color choices and durability. Here's what I've found.

Dupli-Color:
DE 1635 Semi Gloss is about 1/2 way between PJ1 Fast Black and a gloss black
DE 1634 Low Gloss is about the same as PJ1 Fast Black

Plasti-Kote:
215 Low Gloss is also about 1/2 way between PJ1 Fast Black and a gloss black and = to Dupli-Color DE 1635 Semi Gloss
203 Universal Black is about 1/2 again more glossy

In summary Dupli-Color DE 1635 Semi Gloss = Plasti-Kote 215 Low Gloss, and both look fantastic for Jap and Spanish engines. For Husky's glossier finish, you might want to try Plasti-Kote 203 Universal, but all the chains seem to have switched to Dupli-Color, and Plasti-Kote is getting harder to find. Can anyone tell us who's stll carrying Plasti-Kote?

I'm frustrated about 1500 degree pipe paint though. Dupli-Color had a great color, but they recently discontinued it. Any suggestions? RH

>
> PJ1 is available through all the motorbike wholesale houses. VHT is available through auto supply chains like Kragens. I had to special order through my NAPA dealer because it was a non-stock item. VHT also recommends a primer and PJ1 doesn't. I couldn't get the primer because NAPA's distributor didn't stock it. Once I do get some I'm going to test it to see if makes a difference in adhesion. Otherwise it seems that PJ1 and VHT are fairly identical products. VHT also makes a satin black barrel paint. I tested it and it seemed softer than the case paint, like it didn't fully cure. So I decided not to use it.
