Humpers - you'll find some photos from this weekend on the Photos

playing with you all and can't wait for the next tourney! See you
Saturday. Erin

In case you haven't heard, the inaugural tournament
for HumpFreeze was a rousing success! 9 guys, 4
ladies, and 2 dogs made the scenic drive up to Park
City this past weekend for a 7-team co-ed ultimate
tournament.

Here are our short game summaries:

Saturday games:
Round 1: HumpFreeze vs. Salt Lake A

Loss, 13-5

We came out a little slow for this game, but Salt Lake
played very well, too. We had a few drops early on
but picked it up in the 2nd half.

Round 2: HumpFreeze vs. Unknown (Colorado? Idaho?
Either way, we rocked them.)

Win, 13-1

We played really well this game, especially on D, as
the score shows. We took half 7-0 and never really
looked back. Sweet.

Round 3: HumpFreeze vs. Bozeman

Loss, 10-7

This was the first of two close, fun games against the
#1 seed from Bozeman. We were neck-and-neck in the
1st half and they won a marathon point to take half
7-6. We were a little more tired in the 2nd half and
they won it. Great game.

Round 4: HumpFreeze vs. Salt Lake B

Win, 13-7

This game started off close as both teams were pretty
tired (4th game of the day). We turned it up in the
2nd half and looked good on O.

Sunday games:
Round 5: HumpFreeze vs. Las Vegas

Win, 13-5

This was our first Sunday game - it was close early
on, but once again we seemed to hit our stride in the
2nd half and pulled away.

Round 6: HumpFreeze vs. Canada

Win, 10-7

After Danskey and Ashley came up just short in a
valiant effort to drink a disc as fast as possible to
win the pull, we won this game against the crazy
canadians. They also had us take a shot of whiskey
before one point, which was disgusting (and the best).

Round 7: SEMIFINAL: HumpFreeze vs. Bozeman

Loss, 12-10

Another really tight, fun game. We were the #3 seed
so we played the #2 seed Bozeman in the semis (who had
lost to Salt Lake A on Saturday). It was close in the
1st half but they started to pull away in the 2nd
half, and led 10-5 and 11-6. But then we had our best
series of points the entire weekend to get it all the
way to 11-10, with a hard cap to 12. We forced a turn
but couldn't quite punch it in, and Bozeman scored to
win an awesome game. We'll get 'em next time.

General thoughts: WE ROCK! Considering this was our
first tournament as a team and first tournament in a
while for a few people like myself, I thought we
played really well. We have a few kinks to work out,
particularly our endzone offense, but we looked really
good at times. Nice work, guys.

Party writeup - I hate to admit it, but I crashed out
on Saturday night. Maybe Seva or Erin or Marcy or
anyone can give a detailed writeup of rocking the
Canadians at flip cup?

Big shoutout to Mom and Dad (Zach's parents) for
anything and everything. They cheered us on at every
game, brought water and food, made us breakfast, and
did tons of other stuff. Thanks again!

Future HumpFreeze tournaments:

San Diego Jul. 21-22
Los Alamos? Aug.11-12
Santa Fe Savage 7 Sep.8-9
Sectionals Sep. 22-23 (or maybe Sep.15-16? One of
those.)

Once again, great tournament, guys and gals. Let's do
it again soon.

-Jack

yo, I hope the tournament went well! Despite not being able to play, I
can still surf the web for ultimate related stuff.... Anyway, it looks
like someone in new mexico is putting this los alamos tournament on
again. I know it was a blast the last time we went....I believe that was
the time we put 13 people in Andy's van? And went to sonic when we
couldn't find the hot springs?

Hey Andy,
If you would want another driver for the long night treck, my friend would be willing to drive if you could give him a ride.  He is a chill guy, and a good driver. Let me know what you think. Thanks.

Seva and Zach - I don't mind the opportunity to stay another day or two.
I'll bring my laptop so I can work from there if I don't need to be back for
field work on Monday and Tuesday. I'll know more on Friday. If I can't stay
(and that's likely) I'm sure I can squeeze in with someone else.

I don't mind 5 in the car either. If we need more space I have a rocket box
if Seva has space on top of his car.

Yeah - too bad I can't bring the dirtbike!

My number 928 606 8422

I'll be in a masters defense till about 11 so I could leave earlier. Where
in town should I be and at what time? I'd like to leave my car at someone's
house in town.

Ah...think that's it for now!!!

HumpOn!

Humpers,
The best way to get to I-15 is to take hwy 89 north about 4 hrs then hang a left on hwy 20. Hwy 20 is about 5 minutes past the town of Panguitch (or penguin sandwhich if your name is Lauren). hwy 20 will take you to I-15, follow Andys directions from there.

The Utah Arts Festival will be going on this weekend, and could provide a good alternative to the party on saturday night.  The festival hosts lots of live music, art, food, beer, and good times all around.   http://www.uaf.org/

One more thing, my friend, Zach Downes, also hails from SLC and would really like to come back with us for the weekend.  He would prefer to ride in Seva's car, would sit bitch the whole way, and would most definitely pitch for gas.  If anyone in Seva's car objects to having 5 in the car, then let me know and I will tell him NOPE!.  If this be the case, he would be willing to leave with Andy and Ashely, help with the driving, and pitch for gas.  If none of these work, again, I will tell him NOPE!

Hey yall. I know not everyone is on the HumpFreeze listserv, but this
is a reminder that we've got a tournament in Park City the weekend
after next (June 23-24).

First off, if you want to get on the HumpFreeze group, go to
http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/HumpFreeze

Second, if you haven't already responded, let me know if you can make
it to the tournament. Also let me know when you can leave on Friday,
and if you can drive. (If you can't go, also let me know, just so I
know you're getting the e-mails). So far, we have several cars lined
up, but we're lacking in the female department. Ladies, time to step
up.

Lastly, we're going to scrimmage for the majority of Saturday's noon
practice at the Nat fields. Even if you haven't come out for
HumpFreeze, you're invited to come out on Saturday to scrimmage the
team as we prepare for Ski Town Classic in Park City.

Thanks yall.

Andy

Hey Humpers, I've been out of touch up at Lake Powell for a few fabulous days, but glad to see the trip planning in action.  I'm very happy about being part of this team, one of the most fun I've been on.  Thanks Andy, Jack, and Lauren for heading it up.

I'm in for the tourney, and can bring a four seat car, if needed.  I prefer to leave at noon Friday.  Since I'm driving up from Sedona, I'll need a place to park for the weekend, if not driving.  When do people need to get back?  I would be happy to come back casually, say Monday or Tuesday, if any sub group can do that.

Sorry for all the words, but not this:  Hump Bala!

Nice practice today! Our horizontal stack offense was
really looking smooth, and it's only going to get
better. We're going to keep working on it a lot
before the Park City tournament on June 23-24.

Andy and Lauren and I wanted to say a few things both
as reminders and as a few things to think about for
next week.

1. You basically never want more than 3 handlers at
any given time. Otherwise it's as congested as
Andy's chest.

2. If you're cutting, make an incut, and don't
receive the disc, do not cut all the way into the
handler area.

3. It was a little windy today, so it was harder to
huck, but deep throws are a huge part of a good
horizontal offense. Let's see a few more next time.

Next week:

1. More horizontal stack practice.

2. Endzone plays. Horizontal stack is great but it
doesn't work well close to the endzone. We have a few
fun plays in mind.

3. Dump / Swing practice. This ties in with endzone
plays, but it's a big part of offensive ultimate in
general.

Ok, that's it! Nice work today. See you at the Nat
Fields next Saturday at 12pm sharp.

-jack, lauren, andy
