After talking to Cricket, I thought I'd go ahead and explain my decision to decline nomination. I'm really hoping to be a captain of the Jines next fall, and worried that it would conflict with HumpFreeze. But after seeing how much is up in the air for most of the nominees, I've decided that my running is acceptable. I'd really love to be a leader on this team, and get more involved whether or not I am voted in as a captain. I'm just going to keep it short and sweet. I played with a 'broken' back. Kidding, but I've really enjoyed playing with all of you and I cannot wait for what the summer brings. If y'all want me in this position, I'll be there.

The craziness of Lei Out and Inauguration is over, so it's time to think about HumpFreeze again. We talked about captains at our meeting last Tuesday, but the process of nominating and voting wasn't made exactly clear. Hopefully this will help:
• Andy, Ian, Shakey, Cricket, Emily and Kristine were nominated at the meeting (Jaffe declined). Nominations will still be accepted through TOMORROW (Thursday). Nominating yourself is fine.• Once all nominations are set, I propose each nominee write a few sentences about why they'd make a good captain. The basic stuff: strengths and weaknesses, experience and leadership skills, etc. It would also help to clarify your commitment to the team. Specifically, if you have plans to go to Guam for the whole month of August, you should make your teammates aware. No deadline on these blurbs, but the earlier the better. You don't have to write one, but it'll probably affect the way people vote. I'll write my blurb later today on this thread.• Voting starts Friday after all nominations are in. Let's set the Super Bowl (Feb. 1) as our last night to accept votes.• You can vote for ONE or TWO or THREE people. You can vote for yourself. And, because this is America, you can also choose not to vote. Please e-mail just me with your choices.• As for the selection process, I don't know the best way. Now that I think about it, five captains is probably too many, so let's stick with TWO, THREE or FOUR captains. Hopefully it'll be fairly obvious who gets chosen. After the Super Bowl I'll reveal the numbers with no names attached, like this:Candidate A: 14 votesCandidate B: 12 votesCandidate C: 10 votesCandidate D: 3 votesCandidate E: 3 votesCandidate F: 2 votesA, B and C are the clear favorites in this example. But if it's tighter than that, we can decide what to do (e.g. a runoff).Hope things are clearer now. This will hopefully be a good measure of us improving our communication. If you have any qualms or questions, or if I forgot to cover something, please let me know.Andy(847) 716-0578P.S. One other random note we haven't talked about: Things will get expensive this summer and fall. NOW is the time to start saving.
