Hello Happy Hikers,
I thought I would give you an update on the volunteer status for our Bear Creek

expecting Bob's youngest daughter, Kelly from CT and his middle daughter, Ally,

traditional Thanksgiving Dinner.
I hope that everyone enjoys the holiday and, possibly, long week-end and feels
blessed for all we have.

Trekkers 30th Birthday and as always some nice pictures.
Be a part of our celebration, HHH, on Saturday Dec. 5 at Bear Creek Park.
Happy Thanksgiving.

Carol and I went up and walked this event celebrating the Dallas Trekkers
30th Birthday. It was 55 degrees and misting rain, but it was still an
enjoyable event. We did the 15K version that went out to the overlook.

Hello Happy Hikers,
I think most of you have gotten the T-shirts that you ordered.
However, if you wanted a Large, we are out of those and I am trying to get them
for our walk on Dec 5, as well as a few small & mediums.
I am also trying to get a feel for the interest in long sleeve t-shirts and/or
sweatshirts. I am told there are options for sweatshirt of crew or hoodie.
I think that all the short sleeve t-shirts are $10 though the larger ones could
be more.
Long sleeve green t-shirts would be $12.
Crew gray sweatshirts would be $15.
Hoodie gray sweatsheirts would be $17.
The logo would be the same as for the new t-shirts.
Anyway, please advise so I can get cracking on this and may be able to have them
at our next walk.
Also, if you are waiting for a reply from me on a previous t-shirt message,
please ask it again.
Thanks,
Leslie

Hello Happy HIkers,
This is my final note before our walk tomorrow. I know that many of you won't
get it and I apologize. I have been working on the name tags and probably made
about 20-25 tonight. Still not enough. I am up to the Ms but I do have a few
of the later letters too.
I will be arriving early, I hope by 7-7:30 to set up the walk.
I will need to leave NLT 8:00 to go to my office to work. I will be back about
2 to pick up the supplies.
Here is the volunteer schedule for tomorrow. I really appreciate all who did
volunteer.
The weather should be great and Dori is setting things up at the Pine Gully
Checkpoint (2nd checkpoint).
Enjoy the walk and be thinking ahead to the walk / meeting/ lunch in December.

Hello Happy Hikers,
I would like to thank volunteers Carol Pontello and Charlye Jo Ivy, who I left
off my earlier list for their volunteer service on 10-24.
I have some updates for the walk this week-end. They are below.
As you can see, we still need volunteers.
I will be bringing the "stuff" to set up the walk. However, since I have been
sick this week and am behind, I may have to go to the office while you are all
walking.
The weather looks like it is going to be great.
Start times are 8-11 and off the trail by 2.
I have not gotten any new name tags made. I will try to get some done so some
of you will be able to pick them up at the walk.
Light refreshments will be served at the checkpoint on the water so no cookies
again this month. But, Bob brought the new cookie dough home today so expect to
see some at the December walk.
Start:
7:30 - 9:30 - Catherine Guthrie
9:30 - 11:00 - Susan Poole & Jill Merher
11:00 - 12:30 - Martha Youngblood & Lydia Blagg

The walk box at Samuell Farm is no longer located in the main entrance
breezeway. The City of Dallas has reduced staffing and services at the Farm
and that building is no longer open.
We have moved the walk box to the front porch of our house at 1134 Thistle
Dr., Mesquite, Tx, 75149. We're easily found on any internet or GPS mapping
services. The walk box will remain here through the end of December.
If you plan to do the walk before the sanction expires (we are not renewing
this YRE for 2010) and do need directions to the box we'll be happy to send
you directions by email. We're only about 5 minutes from the Farm.
We have one more group walk scheduled at Samuell Farm for the first Sunday
in December. If we don't see you then, we hope you've enjoyed your
walks at the Farm and we thank you for your support.

Hello Happy Hikers,
I would like to thank all our volunteers in advance for their time and efforts.
I found out today that I will be able to be at the walk. My boss decided not to
work tomorrow but has put us on notice that we should expect to work some
upcoming Saturdays. So, I expect to see you all there tomorrow.
We have the Start/Finish taken care of but if anyone would like to stop a few
minutes on the trail tomorrow and work the checkpoint, that would be just great.
I will try to bring all thw t-shirts and get them marked tomorrow before the
walk.
I will bring some of the nametags. Please check to see if yours is made. I
think they look good, but I am makeing these myself and it does take a bit of
time.
There were parking directions sent under a separate cover. Please note that
there are some areas where parking is limited to 2 hours and it is my
understanding that you will not be able to feed a meter to extend the time but
may have to move your car. I don't know that this ex the case, but I did read
that the City of Houston was planning on enforcing the 2 hr only parking.
Remember to bring a bit of cash or credit for your refreshments tomorrow.
See you then!
The final volunteer chart is as follows:

Ed and I went out to East Texas to pick up a new county. The East Texas
Trekkers held a walk in Uphur County. The walk was in conjunction with the
Yamboree Festival in Gilmer which is the county seat. We had lovely weather. We
stopped in the middle of our walk to watch the Yamboree parade. After the
walk we went over to the civic center and walked around the art/craft booths.
We had a great time.

Hello again,
I wanted to keep this note separate from the volunteer note to make sure that
you saw the parking information.
This information is from Larry Stover who is the Trail Master and Point of
Contact.
Books-a-Million will open to the public at 9:00. They will have fifty $3
parking vouchers for walkers to use for the Houston Pavilion Parking garage
which is bounded by Fannin, Clay, Main, and Polk streets. Parking at the garage
is otherwise $10. People coming later in the day can call my cell
(281-804-4632) to see if there are still vouchers available. There is also a
fair amount of metered parking close by - cash or credit card. The rates are
$1.25 per hour or you can get a 'hopper' for $6 which is good for the day at all
downtown meter locations. This could work well for anyonce coming and going or
spending the day at different spots downtown after the walk. Most streets in
the area are one-way. If you are headed south on Fannin, there are 2-hour
meters on the left side as you pass under the Pavilion overhead walkway. This
would be a block from the bookstore entrance on Main. If you turn right on
Polk, there are 4-hour meters on the right side of the street and just steps
from the entrance. There is an entrance to the parking garage off of Fannin
just before you get to Clay.
If you have further ?s, please contact Larry at the provided number.

The following are four notes from Eveline with links to pictures she took
at the West Texas Walk last weekend and a YRE in Wichita Falls, very good
pictures, I wish I could have made the WTTW walk, great views.

The Friday event started at Noon. We got there a little early and visited
with the other hikers before heading out exactly at Noon. The event was very
enjoyable. Good job WTTW!

It was cold and rainy Saturday night. They were predicting a freeze and it
did. Sunday morning we had to scrape ice off our windshield before we could
head out. The ground itself was not cold enough to freeze so the road and
trails weren't icy. We did the 10K trail. It was the same as the 12K except
the 12K continued on when we turned around.
