FrontRunners Houston is affiliated with the International Frontrunners organization and NorthAmerica GLISA, and locally, we are associated with Team Houston. The International FrontRunners organization was inspired by Patricia Nell Warren's novel "The Front Runner".
FrontRunners Houston running club was formed in 1984 and it is the oldest GLBT running club in Houston. Frontrunners Houston welcomes all abilities from walker, to runners who practice running for healthy lifestyle or runners who race in 5k's, 10k's, 10 milers, half marathons, full marathons and ultra-distances (30 miles or more). Frontrunners Houston welcomes GLBT and straight members seeking a healthy lifestyle via exercise. Frontrunners Houston has no membership fees as it is a volunteer based organization.
Currently, we have 3 days in which members meet to run and or walk.
On Thursday evening and Sunday mornings, we meet at Memorial Park, at milepost Zero (in front of the Tennis Center). The meeting times are: Thursdays at 6:30 PM and Sundays at 8:00 AM.
On Saturday, the group walk begins at 8:00 AM. This group meets at the end of the parking lot by the Memorial swimming pool, on Arnot St (e-mail the yahoo group for more info).
On Sundays, we walk/run a Memorial Park at 8:00 AM, at milepost 0 in front of the tennis center.
For all these runs/walks, we suggest you arrive at least 5 or 10 minutes early so that you can stretch, chat and stretch before exercising. If you plan to walk with the walkers, please arrive at least 15 minutes early as walkers sometimes leave early to finish about the same time runners do.
All runners/walkers are welcome to either/any one of these organized run/walk workout days.
If these days don't meet your schedule, please feel free to post a message to the group. You may find a workout partner for other days not listed here.
Thank you
