*** Hammonds signs on dotted line with Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE (AP) - Outfielder Jeffrey Hammonds signed his new
three-year, $21.75 million contract with the Milwaukee Brewers on
Thursday. "I wanted to play in a city where I could become part
of the community," the 29-year-old Hammonds said. "Milwaukee has
a long history of baseball. I always enjoyed coming here as an
opposing player. I also wanted to play for a team that wanted me
for my talent. I wanted to play where I could help a team, rather
than be a fill-in. Playing in Miller Park and for (manager) Davey
Lopes also were big factors." Hammonds agreed last week to the
contract. He was fourth in the National League with a .335
average last season for the Colorado Rockies. In eight seasons in
the majors, he has hit .282 with 88 homers and 341 RBIs. He also
has played in Baltimore and Cincinnati. He has never played in
more than 123 games in any season.

*** Tigers announce 2001 ticket prices

DETROIT (AP) - The Detroit Tigers are either keeping ticket
prices the same or lowering them for next season, depending on
the section at Comerica Park. The price of the top box seats will
remain at $60 in the ballpark's second season. the Tigers said
Wednesday. Several sections of what had been $60 Tiger Den
tickets -- in sections 116-118 and 138-141 -- will be cut to $35
and renamed terrace seats. Extra-wide, padded club seats in the
first six rows of the upper level surrounding the infield will be
reduced from $50 to $35, and outfield box seats in sections
107-111 in the right-field corner will be reduced from $25 to
$15. Ticket prices for 11 seating categories will remain
unchanged.
