ROCKET BACK FOR '05

The Houston Astros announced Friday the signing of
right-hander Roger Clemens to a one-year, $18 million
contract. The deal is the highest single-season salary
for a pitcher in Major League history. Clemens, 42, went
18-4 with a 2.98 ERA last season while earning his record
seventh Cy Young Award.

The return of Clemens will give Houston a formidable
rotation of Clemens, 20-game winner Roy Oswalt, Andy
Pettitte, Brandon Backe and a fifth starter to be
determined.

Clemens leads all active pitchers in wins, starts,
innings, strikeouts, complete games and shutouts.
