"America's Email".....ONE INSTANT IS ETERNITY.....ETERNITY IS NOW....WHEN YOU SEE THROUGH THIS ONE INSTANT...YOU SEE THROUGH THE ONE WHO SEES... ~ WELCOME to the Wintery "Field of Dreams Today" from snowy Virginia...The email that missed snow while living in Atlanta....We would get one early little snow or ice day in HotLanta and than it was spring...... ~ THIS DAY in 1959 ..Coast to Coast Jet service started in the United States...And thus the bad airline meal was born... ~ Today's Farmer's Alamanac calls fo Sunny and Fair....Now they get it right more than many think...But not today... ~ From The Front Office - Slogans..You have to have one...As you know we call this "America's Email"....With the quotes it simply says that someone - ME - has stated that fact...My baseball mentor Bob Neal taught me to have a slogan and theme every year...Catchy..Something people will remember...In 1978 we started "Pilots Power"...During selected innings the Public Address announcer - One of my many duties - would try to rally the fans when the home team needed to score..."OK FANS IT'S TIME FOR A LITTLE PILOTSSSSSSSSSSS POWERRRRR!!!..And than the charge tape was played...The slogan stuck for the next 10 seasons and believe it or not we did score more runs in those innings...Of course we never used it when we were 8 runs down and had no chance..But the fans did respond....So when I followed my mentor to Auburn,New York with the Houston Astros we were trying to come up with a theme...Bob and I had a house that actually overlooked the ballpark pitchers mound that the city let us use...One night about 2 am I just couldn't sleep..Thinking about a slogan...Than it came to me....I got up and started banging on Bob's door...."Bob..Bob..What county is Geneva(NY) in?" - our closest opponent - He looked at me like I was insane but informed me that it was not ours......Thus AUBURN ASTROS "Cayuga County's ONLY Professional Sports Team" was born...And caught on...We printed it on everything...The newspapers used it...The fans liked it..It did several things...It sounded bold..Even though Cayuga County was not a large county it made us sound Big League...It also included potential fans outside of just Auburn....And it gave the community a sense of pride...It stuck around even after I had left Auburn until they changed their nickname...We also used "The Team of the FingerLakes"......"Come watch the Stars Come Out"..."Come Catch the Rising Stars" and Falson Park -"Oldest Minor League Ballpark in America"..All were good..But the original proved to be the best....Our new baseball team is "Southside Virginia's FIRST Pro Sports Team of the 21st Century"...I like it...It's sad though that ad slogans are not working as well as they use to..I think companies don't stick with what works...NIKE still uses "Just Do It"....Coca Cola is still "The Real Thing"..But Delta..They used "We love to fly and it show" for years..Than they paid some ad agency millions for "We're on top of the World"...Huh....Stay with what brung you..And pound away at it...If it's good it will stick even now in the 21st Century...And that's my word as editor of "America's Emal".... ~ Today's Word..."Temerity"....Audacity.....Boldness....Over confident... ~ From JAY LENO HEADLINES..."Furniture drive for homeless launched".... ~ Today's Cool Site.. www.nasa.gov ....Great coverage of the Mars rovers.... ~ WELCOME back family member ED FERNANDEZ to our group today..Ed fixes all the computer problems at DHL/Airborne Express and helped me so much in my 10 years with the company..Welcome back buddy!!.... ~ We have a Big Birthday to celebrate this week...More later..... ~ Today's Sports Shot...OLIVER KIRK an Olympic Boxer from the USA won 2 gold medals in two different weight classes at the same Olympics.... ~ Today's Health Link...For people with Alzheimer's and their families www.alz.org .... ~ So it's over for Ben and JEN....Does anyone really care????...... ~ I soke with my buddy LORRAINE CRUMMER on Friday and she says hello..Yet another Airborn alumnus..Lorraine I know you will find a new job that will be better than you ever had at AIREX....Good Talking!!..... ~ It's Smowing..PULL THE TARPS....Kind Words can be short and easy to speak...But their echoes are truly endless...That's the Snowy Sunday "Field of Dreams Today"...The Road to a Friend's Home is Never Long...Be Safe...Be Brave...Be Americans...And Never Let Go..."Sic Semper Tyrannis"..Let's Roll!!
