next week (12/30), please note that these two sessions have been canceled.
Mineyo just called me but she's not near a computer so can't tell everyone
else yet!

In the meantime, let me say it's been great meeting you folks over the last
year, and I can't think of any nicer people I'd like to have thump and kick
me! Which you all seem to enjoy doing, so I guess I just have train more or
run faster :-)

Hey Gang,
 
We have a lot going on this Sat.  We have sparring practice this Sat. at Sensei Rachel's dojo (Family Martial Arts Center) @ 1:30 followed by grappling for those who want to stay.  Please do your best to be on time so that Rachel can start our grappling lesson as scheduled.
 
Kenny has also graciously offered to teach Kaju free of charge for those who are serious about learning the art.  Kenny will start class at noon on Sat. at Sensei Rache'ls dojo before the sparring session begins.  If you know of anyone else who would want to train please call Kenny or respond to this e-mail.

FYI, there is an interesting article titled "Tang Soo Do Sparring Drills" in the November issue of Black Belt magazine.  Read what advice Master Chun Sik Kim has to give about one-step sparring, tang soo-do style. Master Po has probably already read it and would have lots of comments to share about the article if he were here.

We have another special sparring day this Sat., 1:30 at Sensei Rachel's place at her new Kalihi dojo.  If you missed last week's session, the address is 2184 N. King Street, next to Kalihi Union Church.  You can find a map to her dojo by googling "Martial Arts Center, Honolulu, HI".  Parking is on the street.  If you plan to join Sensei Rachel's grappling session which follows sparring, the fee is $10.00.  Please bring an Aikido or Judo gi with belt (quilted) or a heavy karate gi for practice.

Sorry Gang.  We have to cancel sparring practice this Sat. because the lady that rents out the ballet studio to us is out of town.  Rachel is back from her vacation so Kenny is working out the details with her on which Saturdays we will be at her new dojo in Kalihi.  We also need to know how many of you will be staying after sparring practice to learn jiu-jitsu grappling techniques from Sensei Rachel.  we will give you more details on that as it comes.  In the meantime, take a break and have a great weekend!

Hey Gang,
 
It is practice time this Sat in the ballet studio however, we also have open house for propective new members at 1:00pm  Kim will be in to talk to our new students and introduce them to what our club is all about.  You can show up and practice at 1:00 or come at the usual 1:30.  Kim said the beginners class will run about 45 minutes.  We will train with Kenny as Kim works with the beginners and class will continue after Kim is done.  We will also have our short sparring session after practice drills as usual.  Please let any of your friends or family members know if they are interested in attending our free session for beginners.
 
James also e-mailed to tell us that he is fine and learning a lot in Shanghai.  He said to say hello and that we can all "beat" up on him when he gets back.  I don't think so.  We better all keep ourselves in top form so we can at least hold our own with him.  I am sure he will have a lot to share with us too.  See you all on Sat.

Soke Michael DePasquale, Sr. Passes Away

It is with great sadness we report that on September 23, 2006 at 1:30pm Soke Michael DePasquale, Sr. passed away.

Soke DePasquale Sr. is one of the true pioneers of martial arts in the United States having begun his study of the martial arts in the 1940's. After serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, he returned home and resumed his pursuit of study in the arts. He is a renowned Jujutsu Master and holds the 10th Dan rank and the titles of Ni Dai, Shihan, and Professor of the Martial Arts. He is the Dai Shihan of the International Federation of Jujutsuans. He founded the first Jujutsu Dojo in the United States sanctioned by the Japanese Federation.

The world has lost a martial arts legend and pioneer. A loving husband, father and teacher he will be sadly missed by all.

His viewing will be on Tuesday September 26, 2006 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 7:00 to 9:00pm.
