I think the best way for you to gain confidence is to get experienced crew to go out with you and your family on your boat. A few hours on the lake and you should feel confident about handling it in easy weather. I would suggest that you work your way up to those days when it’s blowing 35+ Just watch the weather and take normal boating safety precautions and you will be fine.
There is usually any number of us about on the weekends. But if you send an email about a specific date, you probably could get confirmation from somebody willing to help you out.
