Happy New Year all,

They said he couldn't be rivalled!
They said he couldn't be beaten!

....but on Saturday Night a true contender emerged!

For those of you that where fortunate enough to witness the
greatest 'Dance Off' since Breakdance 2 'Electric Bogaloo', the
members at Holtwhites were treated to a breakdance extravaganza,
with shapes and moves being thrown were with a flagrant disregard
for their bodies and in some cases their age!

'The Burn-out to end all Burn-out's' had begun!

Josh opened up with a 'Running Man' of great poise, energy and
direction. Pat opened up with his own version 'The Zimmer Man'
fuelled by Scrumpy, gout and a bad back. I'll let you imagine how
that looked.

But unphased Pat unleashed his personal favourite 'The Freestyle',
this confused Josh and to be honest he looked a little lost, this
was probably owing to the fact that JMJ had based his routine on
balance, talent and rythmn and not a Somerset distillery!

With the 1st XI skipper tiring, the youngster saw his chance and hit
Pat with a quick one-two. Firstly a 'Caterpillar' completed to
perfection, then secondly a 'Backspin' that could have been mistaken
for a Spinning Top such was the speed and grace.

At this point the 'The Champ' looked for all the world out on his
feet, so with Pat in a similar state to that of Mr Balboa at the end
of Rocky 1, he summoned up all his energy and a double Brandy for
one last push!......

...with a 'backspin' of his own, although this did not go according
plan. This best way to descibe this is, if you can imagine a
tortoise on it's back not being able right itself you are not far
from what we saw either!

Never the less once everything had been said and done, a winner had
to be chosen and although my decision may seem may seem a little
controversial, I hope you will agree with my reasoning!

1. First and foremost, Pat is my friend
2. Secondly, Pat is my captain, oh by the way Pat can I open this
season please?
3. And Thirdly, Josh, for me, was just a little too good, a little
too practiced some might! Sort of 'practice in my bedroom on rainy
days' too good!

Anyway there you have it, the ramblings of a envious Welshman - If
only I could dance like Pat!

Break-it down!

5 V.Richards
6 G.Sobers
7 I.Botham
8 I.Healy (Jack Russell give me a break, he couldn't even get past Alec
Stewart in the England team!)
9 S.Warne
10 D.Lillee
11 C.Walsh

My immediate impression is that it's a top team you've picked, but I would
have to argue that Border wouldn't get ahead of Sobers, Richards or
Tendulker in terms of ability. Viv Richards was the most intimidating
batsman I've ever seen, he was the best batsman (in my opinion) in one of
the two/three greatest ever test teams and has to be in, plus he won a
World Cup with his fielding alone. Tendulker is a genius, but so were
Bradman and Lara (Lara's 148 catches to Tendulker's 77 also came into it)
and both get my vote ahead of him.

A good opening partnership, but I think I can come up with just as good,
with my attacking line up, I want a rock to build around and there are a
few to choose from, Gavaskar, Boycott or perhaps even Dravid who has a
fine record. Boycott and Gavaskar both hugely selfish players. Gavaskar
what a great batsman an obvious choice, but his ego wouldn't fit through
the door, it would rip the team apart, so I would go for Boycs, selfish
but honest and you would bet your life on him even at his current age (And
Botham would keep his slightly smaller ego in check!). My other opener
would have to be attacking, in fact murderous. I've always rated Gooch,
but in this day and age not many would compare with Hayden, a true bully,
maybe a controversial choice, but he has been the most dominating batsman
in the greatest test team, in my opinion. And not a bad average of 54!

I think in a team like this you have to accommodate genius, even amongst
the greats, so I would change the shape of the team, drop Muri (however
many wickets he takes, he's still a chucker in my book), move 6-10 down
one place and slot in Sobers - arguably the greatest allrounder cricket
has ever seen. Botham is nailed in for me, although you could say, others
were technically better, Kapil Dev, Imran Khan, Sobers, hadlee. But Botham
was a winner, he had the magic touch and was my first name on my list.

Jack Russell give me a break, he couldn't even get past Alec Stewart in
the England team -a great keeper but not the greatest. But what about
Healy or Rod Marsh? Healy took 395 dismissals, more than anybody, 230 more
than Jack Russell. Healy had to keep to the greatest spin bowler the world
has ever seen and try and read him (same could be said for Gilchrist).
Check this out

IA Healy 119 4356 27.39 - - 366 29 395 AUS
RW Marsh 96 3633 26.51 0 - 343 12 355 AUS
AC Gilchrist 77 4780 51.39 - - 298 31 329 AUS
MV Boucher 85 3024 30.24 1 6.00 311 14 325
RSA/ICC-XI
AJ Stewart 133 8463 39.54 0 - 263 14 277 ENG
RC Russell 54 1897 27.10 - - 153 12 165 ENG

Holding, Walsh, Marshall, Hadlee, all absolute quality, but I would also
like to bring Deniss Lillee to this discussion. Like Viv Richards, he
dominated the opposition, people were afraid of him, but not only that he
was one of the greatest bowlers, perhaps even the greatest, 355 test
wickets in only 70 matches speaks volumes! A bowler to go with him is a
hard choice, but it's a toss up for me between all of the above, plus
Ambrose and Larwood, but I'm going to go for Walsh. Walsh was at the top
for such a long period and carried his team, fast, accurate and deadly
plus sheer weight of wickets.

Well that's my team, who knows who's team would win, mine or Taffy's. By
the way who would captain, I think mine would be Sobers, Border maybe?

Evening all,

Ok I'm trying to install Napster on to my PC via a dial up and I'm a

It's more difficult than it looks, here are some players I've got
playing in the seconds!

Sobers
Richards
Tendulkar
TV Reis
Gavaskar
W G Grace
Walsh
Hadlee

Clive Lloyd
The Waugh boys

Nice one....

Most cricketers, who are not comfortable in conversing in English, go prepared
for some standard questions that are asked from them, when commentators chat
with them during the awards ceremony.

Inzamam was once asked a different question after Pakistan won the match, for
which he was not prepared. He always had a standard response to the first
question. But this time.....

Tony Greig: So Inzi, that's fantastic, your wife is pregnant for the second
time!

Inzamam: Bismillah-aye-Rehman-aye-Rahim! All credit goes to the boys. Everyone
work hard for it, especially Afridi. It was tight situation when he went in.
Without his strokes it not have been possible. He was pulling the good balls.
Also Bob Woolmer keeping close watch on progress and giving instructions. It's
all team effort which pulled us out of big hole.

Insha Allah, we all will work together as team, put in big effort and deliver
good result all the time.

Following the email re : room sharing I feel it is only fair that I
respond to Dazza's harsh words : -

Tips for sharing with Darren " Grumpy " Tarling

1) When Darren is listing to a quiz on the radio on his " Digital
Radio" via headphone , please don't be alarmed if he suddenly shouts
out random words or phrases - he is getting interactive.

2) As Darren is approaching old age you will find that he requires
less sleep than you do and can quite often be found pacing in the
corner of the room at 6 am , he might also proclaim loudly enough to
wake you that he is going for a walk.

3) If you find you have a mirror in your room, I recommend that you
get the hotel staff to remove it so as to avoid the embarrassment of
coming back to the room and finding Darren practicing his forward
defensive wearing just his pads!

4) If Darren scores runs ( Normally > 5 ) you might also want to
invest in some ear plugs as it is likely that he will tell you about
those runs until you lapse into unconsciousness due to boredom

5) I would not buy any ear plugs , borrow them if you can as I would
not want you to waste your money as scores > 5 are rare these days.

6) If Darren is tired (bless) he can get quite uptight, I found the
best way of dealing with this is to pick up his teddy for him and
give it back to him so as to enable him to throw it again.

I hope the above is helpful to future room sharers

Regards

Kermit

Morning all

Just to let you know, I've updated the club records from the averages
recieved on presentation night (sorry Peter, it doesn't show guests
runs, so I'll have to get that from Mr Freer at a later date)

A few interesting points

Kev Burgess's high score of 118* in the league this year was in fact
his highest score for the club

Kev, Taffy and Terry are having a battle royal for 14th,15th and 16th
in the all time runs scored list, with positions changing this year.

Taffy scored a thousand runs in a season for the second time, the
other time he did it was in 1996, when he was just 20!

Steve Gerrett won the bowling cup with the fewest overs in a season,
since 1997, when his Dad won it! In fact Steve, Tuna (twice) and Des
Kerr have all won the bowling cup with fewer overs than in the famous
year Eddie Wooll won it on 28 wickets by retiring in June 1986,
having only bowled 138 overs, leaving poor Mike Bigby stranded on 90
wickets and a worse average by a fraction.

In the bowling list, Steve has moved ahead of Bob in the all time
wickets list and only 12 wickets behind his dad.

Pat kept his tenth spot and held Kojak at bay after moving within a
Whisker of Dave Blacktopp. Kojak moved up another place and is only 5
wickets behind Pat.

All these records can be found at http://www.holtwhites-
trinibis.co.uk/Club%20Records.htm

Paul

Welcome to the HTCC Members Forum, this is your chance to post
messages, have discussions with other members about general cricket,
club issues, idea's match reports, memories of past players/matches,
funny stories and post photos to share with members.

Conditions of membership to this HTCC Members Forum are that it is to
be used for cricket related or club related issues only, it is to be
considered a family environment, so keep it clean. Photo's should be
kept to 200k or less, preferably 100k, as we only have 30mb of storage
space. The smaller the files, the more photo's you can post.

I hope you enjoy being part of this HTCC online community.
