LIGHTNING NAME LECAVALIER NEW CAPTAIN

Tampa Bay – Hockey Nuts throughout the Tampa Bay area are psyched and ready for another season of hockey, and fortunately, so are the Bolts. The only question is will the Lightning also bring Thunder? Only time will determine that. Not to be outdone by Garth Snow’s announcement that Bill Guerin is the new captain of the Islanders, General Manager Thom Ayers announced that Vinnie LeCavalier has been named captain of the 2007-2008 Bolts. He is the third to be name captain since Ayers took over the team. Although it was not announced, it has been rumored that Tim “The Tool-man Taylor has asked that he be replaced as he is considering retirement. Marty St.Louis, Vinnie’s sidekick, is thought to be a candidate for assistant captain. The two, by the way, combined for 95 goals last season.
In another story, Thom Ayers has denied reports that he maybe putting a goaltender or two on the block. He was quoted as saying, “I made a lot of trades to defend the net, and while they may not be all-stars, they can get the job done. Sean Burke, Jocelyn Thibault, Ilya Bryzaglov and Curtis Sanford are expected to be in camp, and the Bolts are expected to protect Johan Holmqvist with a territorial pick.
News around Tampa Bay is that training camp may start a little earlier this year. There are also a couple of rumors afloat that a couple of deals may already be in place. The Who’s and the Where’s are unknown. Stay tuned for further updates.

This is Thom Ayers reporting from poolside in Tampa Bay. (And, by the way, poolside is not a pretty sight. The liner won’t be fixed for another week. Rumor has it that a few of the Montreal Canadiens came by for a swim. That was OK, but they never took off their uniforms or skates!!!!)
