1)Age: 52
2)Location: Rock Tavern, NY (about 70 miles north of NYC)
3)How long riding trikes: About 8 years
4)Which model GS: I currently have a GTS. I also own a Catrike "Road",
and a Trimuter "20/20", which is a GS
built in the USA. In the past I have also owned an X-5 and a GTO, as
well as a Windcheetah, Terra Trike, Optima
"Rider", and about 30 upright bents.
5)How is it used: Often on bike paths & "rails to trails" roads (about
25%). Often on the local roads (75%)
I don't do any utility riding (shopping, errands, etc.) as I don't like
leaving the trike unattended for any length of time.
6)Average speed: I have no idea, perhaps 12-14mph on the flats. I
live/ride in the Catskills, and the riding is strictly up
& down... mostly up, it seems. I've never been too concerned with speed
since I've failed to appreciate and notice way too
much prior to getting a trike. Like another member of this group (and he
is a true gentleman & scholar, I should mention)
I am legally blind. No biggie.
7)Misc. Comments: My GTS is setup with a Schlumpf "High Speed Drive" in
the front, and a SRAM 3 x 9 Dual Drive. This
gives me incredible gear range for climbing and speed (if desired). If
I'm not mistaken the gear spread worked out to something
like 11.8-136gear inches. That's enough to get me up these hills.
I'm going to be doing the NYC "5 Boro Bicycle Tour" on May 3rd, and I
hope to meet some other trikers.
