Tires for Greenspeed   Message List

I was wondering if anyone in the group has had experience with the 16"
Kenda "Kwest" tires. I've used these on my roadbikes in the past and
have been very pleased.
At present I have a set of Greenspeed "Scorcher" tires on my X-5, and
I have Schwalbe "Marathon" tires (not the new kevlar "Plus" tires) on
both my Greenspeed GTO and Trimuter (Greenspeed GTR clone). I have
enjoyed great riding and reliability in the past with the Marathons,
but would like something a bit faster.
Is the "Kwest" a better choice for the X-5? I have noticed that the
Scorchers tend to flatten out and slow down. Also, (to me, at least)
they seem very prone to flats.

Am I making a mistake considering replacement with the Kenda tires, or
shall I just stay with the Scorchers?

I should also mention that I've ridden the Tioga "Comp Pool" tires,
Schwalbe "Stelvio" tires and Primo "Comet" tires on the trikes in the
past, and I was not impressed with any of them.
I do road riding only, and a great deal of that is on paved bicycle
trails.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Can't speak for the 16" Kenda's but our Sun EZ3-USX came with a 20" Kenda. When one got a flat, I was happy to replace it with a Marathon because the Kenda was...

I have a Greenspeed GTR and last year I installed three Schwalbe Marathon Plus. The main reasons for deciding on these was they are as close as you are going...

Walt, Thank you for the insight. I hadn't realized that Greenspeed offered a kevlar version of the Scorcher. I'll have to look into that. Again, the wear...

At this point it seems a reasonable sacrifice (speed for staility). I'm no speed demon to start with, so they are something to consider. As I've said, I'm a...

I've also had the "thorn proof" tire tubes on my GTO, and have found them to weigh a ton and carrying a spare is a major concession as far as room. They just...
