Greetings from overcast Venice, California,
I have a Greenspeed X5 and couldn't be more pleased with my purchase ($5000,
with all
the bells and whistles, including Rotor Cranks, which I highly recommend). As
far as
pricing goes, it's really like comparing Mercedes to Hundai. Greenspeeds are my
first
choice, and I particularly loved the X5's cambered wheels, which really glue it
to the road.
However, I also liked the Catrikes, in particular the Catrike 700. The Catrike
Speed is also
very nice. I'm not a big fan of Catrike's direct steering, but that's a
personal preference.
As everyone has said, especially when you consider the price, you really should
test drive
several. I bought my X5 from Dana at Bent-Up Cycles in Van Nuys, California.
Dana is
terrific and will gladly answer your questions about trike choices. By the way,
the ICE
trikes are nice, but I found the seats less comfortable than both the
Greenspeeds and the
Catrikes. The same goes for the Velotechnic Scorpion, which really looks
fantastic but lost
me with its less-than-ideal seat. Bottom line: when it comes to choosing a
trike, you'll
know as soon as you take a spin on the right model for you. My best friend felt
best on
the Catrike Trail, which is less than half the price of my X5. It's really not
about the price.
It's about the fit. So don't rush into a purchase until you've really had a
chance to try as
many models as you can. All the best,
Mark
