The Blizzard 2007 season opener was a tale of two halves. Inexperience
and missed opportunities plagued the Blizzard during the first half.
It wasn't until the second half when the Blizzard put points on the board.
After being shut out 19-0 in the first half, the Blizzard ended their
scoreless drought with a nine yard pass from QB Ryan Hawk to WR Scott
Burnoski. Hawk completed 15-26 passes for 151 yards and 2 touchdowns
while Burnoski caught 5 passes for 38 yards and 1 touchdown.
The Blizzard never could get close enough to catch the Fusion who was
energized by more than 5,200 unruly fans on the night their new
franchise was unveiled. While playing impressively better in the
second half, Fort Wayne proved too much for the Blizzard. After
cutting the deficit to eight with under one minute left in the game,
Kicker Dallas Pelz's onside kick was recovered by the Fusion ending
any comeback hopes for Green Bay.
Blizzard wide receiver Danny Donaldson was the bright spot of a dark
evening. Donaldson caught 7 passes for 87 yards and 2 touchdowns. On
the defensive side of the ball the Blizzard line was in the Fusion
backfield all night. DL Jason Hardee and LB Rob May each had one sack
on former Texas Tech standout quarterback, Cody Hodges. The defense
held the Fusion to only three points in the third quarter.
The Blizzard will look to avenge yesterday's loss when the team comes
home to Green Bay on April 13th to face the Manchester Wolves. The
2007 home opener will feature $1.85 bigger 22 oz. beers, sodas,
hotdogs and other select concession items. The night will also
showcase the raising of the 2006 American Conference and Eastern
Division Championship banners as well as the jersey giveaway from the
Blizzard's trip to the 2006 ArenaCup in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
The Blizzard website said this was an upset, don't know how this is an
upset? Both teams are very young
